Book Description

August 1998 Romance (Book 1)
Ceri, a Welsh wisewoman, has been in love with her half-Norman, half-Welsh overlord from afar for years. But Lord Taliesan doesn't even know she exists until Ceri decides to cast a web of enchantment over him, but it will only last for as long as he remains in their village. But eventually, against his will, Lord Taliesan is brought back to the castle and he forgets Ceri. But Ceri follows him, hoping that a deeper kind of magic will make him remember their love.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This story takes place during the conflict over the English throne in 1145 between Stephen and Matilda, and Lord Taliesan is loyal to Matilda. While riding through Llechu Lord Taliesan of Westbourne is wounded and Ceridwen's grandmother, Mab, who many believe a witch, takes care of him. Ceri begs Mab to cast a spell of enchantment over Tal but Mab cautions Ceri that he won't remember her once he leaves. Yet Ceri has loved Tal all her life and knows that because of the difference in their stations, that this may be her only chance to love Lord Tal, so she accepts this condition. Tal returns to Westbourne and shortly after that Ceri arrives unannounced and unexpected, and while Tal has no memory of her, this angel enchants him. Tal must deal with his enemies, a disgruntled knight, and his mother who tries to arrange a marriage for him. Taliesan is captured, but Ceri and Mab provide a way to rescue him that also opens up the memories of his heart. Ms. Rogers writes unusually long sentences forcing frequent rereading for this reviewer, and I didn't care for the plot because of Ceri's fierce determination to have Tal and the way she goes about achieving that goal. But Marylyle's fans and others might enjoy this romance simply because the heroine dreams the impossible dream and gets it - albeit with a little help from her grandmother. 4.0 out of 5 stars Memories of the Heart, March 11, 2010
This review is from: Memories of the Heart (Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Well, to start off, this reviewer like reading long sentences; and if the reviewer from the the Literary Times think that Marylyle Rogers writes sentences of an abnormal length that take "many rereadings" to understand, sje obviously have never cracked open a book by Virginia Woolf - that woman loved long sentences much more so than Ms Rogers- and in no way is it a hindrance to either author, so that reviewer needs to broaden her reading spectrum ASAP.

Anyway, on to the story. While the plot is a little hackneyed (Tal can't remember her because he was under a love spell, but she will prove her love to him and win his hand even if she is just a lowly freeborn Welshwoman), Rogers managed to inject the take with the magic of Wales and come up with a story that is sweet in its innocent look at the world on Ceri and all that she holds dear. It's a world that I felt myself wanting to become a part of as the story progressed, and that is always the hallmark of a good story.
