Book Description

September 24, 1999
A humorous and witty reflection of life experiences and memories, like the Chicken Soup for the Soul, but with a distinctive Yiddish flavor of Leos Bronx roots. Stories are grouped into sections such as Lifes Little Lessons; All in the Family; Growing Up Jewish; Old Times in the Old Neighborhood; Celebrating Jewish Style; School More Than Just An Education; and Nu? So What Else Is New? A special added feature of the book is Leos Glossary for the Yiddishly Challenged.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

For many it is a world that is no more. The Bronx, the old neighborhood, the neighbors, the old school, the libray and the playground. I have tried to reconstruct some of my memories and pepper it (or should I say salt it, Kosher salt, of course) with some wisdom supplied by such notables as Tanta Pesha, Sadie with the Teeth Gertie with the Hair and Lillie with the Nails. And of course there's always Mama who informs us that everyday, you should have a good laugh and a clove of raw garlic. So how bad could that be? Come and share some of these stories with me. I guarantee a few smiles, a couple of chuckles and maybe even a tear or two. But, after all, isn't that what life is all about?

5.0 out of 5 stars Once upon a time in a place called The Bronx, December 24, 2002
This review is from: Memories of Laughter & Garlic: Jewish Wit, Wisdom, & Humor to Warm Your Heart (Paperback)
Memories of Laughter & Garlic is a unique collection of beautifully written stories. Each story touches the heart in its own way, paints such a vivid picture of once upon a time in a place called,'The Bronx', that you become totally absorbed in each and every one. I don't have a favorite story from this collection, except to say whichever I happen to be reading at the time is my favorite for that day!
