This review is from: Memories: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The first soundtrack: Magnetic Rose
Composer: Yoko Kanno (w/Puccini) 5 Stars Yoko Kanno opens this film with a wonderful choir and alto saxophone duet. The ambient interweavings are simply stunning. Other tracks are orchestral, with some synthesizer mixed in. One of my favorite tracks is "Radio-Mad Butterfly", which quotes the "Un Bel Di Vedremo" aria from Madama Butterfly by Puccini. This theme resonates through the film. A reprise of the opening Chorale closes the story. Wonderful. Second Soundtrack: Stink Bomb Composer: Jun Miyake 5 Stars Vastly different from the last soundtrack, this is upbeat, hip, and jazzy. It almost has a playful, mischievous sound to it. "Nobuo's Groove" may be one of the coolest anime tunes ever written. Very cool. Third Soundtrack: Cannon Fodder Composer: Hiroyuki Nagashima 2 Stars The weakest soundtrack, it is militaristic and synthesized. It cannot stand alone outside of the film. |
