'Memories and Vagaries' is a modern classic written by an honest hearted physician who saw suffering in the common fare of life and did what he was able to alleviate that suffering. My heart was melted at his descriptive stories of the simple lives of the people, and their struggles to draw meaning from their experiences. One of the finest books I have ever read (sequel to Stories of San Michelle). The book was a Time-Life Series selection (1928, I believe). Well worth the read. It will give you a btter heart.
