...anytime the term "brain-based" pops up on the cover of a book, I cringe!...first, it's redundant since pretty much EVERYTHING a concious organism does is necessarily "brain-based"...second, it has rapidly become trite since practically every other book pertaining to learning or teaching anymore claims to be "brain-based"...finally, in most cases, it's fraudulent since very few of these books ever supply references to scientifically valid studies to support their claims...Ms. Nickelsen, on the other hand, does a really nice job of briefly describing how the brain works and what we know about how the brain processes information and stores it...she then gives a series of practical examples along with photocopiable sheets for classroom use...I couldn't get too excited about the review games she provides but that's just a matter of taste...the information in the first half of the book should provide the motivated teacher/parent a basis for constructing their own activities and stategies...

Geared more for older children, maybe 10 and up but very helpful and with "doable" suggestions. Another great scholastic reference book.

The book is written in simple terms which makes processing very easy. There are some really good suggestions. When I first started reading it I thought I'd send it back, but it's cheap enough to keep and I'll share with colleagues.
