A wonderful overview of Memory, November 10, 2010
This review is from: Memory from a Broader Perspective (Hardcover)
Up front we need to be aware that this book was published in 1994, so with over a 15 year window in a book on memory there will certainly be areas that can be updated. I bought it in 1995 and still find myself leafing through the pages from time to time.
However - this book is intended as an overview of memory for non-specialists in the field of memory, and it does address many aspects of memory that are obviously still very relevant. I feel it addresses these fundamental aspects (kinds of memory, storage, consolidation, recall, STM, LTM) in a very easy to understand yet academic fashion.
I would not hesitate to purchase this book as someone wanting to go deeper than books addressing memory that are in the common press, even despite the publication date. It is not a novel, not a NYT top hit, but an introductory academic textbook on memory that unravels a lot of interesting and applicable theories on memory - still being discussed today.
The book is really a 5 for me, but to be fair (due to the publication date given the topic), I give it a 4.
