Great Card,

This card does everything a card should. Save games. Save a lot of games. And, it's inexpensive. Some people complain that the amount of Megabytes that it holds is lower then the compitions, but the truth is that it doesn't matter. With Gamecube you don't need to save a lot of info, and the card can hold 59 different saves, but some saves take up 3 or 2 spaces, although a lot, at least from Nintendo, just require 1 out of 59 spaces to save.

It's hard to get too worked up over a stick of memory for a game console, but a lot of people seem to be doing so. In the end, the truth is that while the MC59 is not the absolute perfect way to save games, it does what it needs to do and does it nicely. With 59 blocks, you can save normal gameplay information from about 9-12 GameCube games, which tend to use either 'about three' or 'about ten' block each. Obviously, some games can really eat up the memory -- if you build dozens of custom parks for DM BMX2, you'll need more than one memory card. But that seems reasonable. With only about two dozen GC games available, an average gamer probably needs two memory cards, and can plug both in at once. A gamer who focuses on just two or three games (even memory hungry ones, like Smash Brothers and Pikmin) can make do with just one card. As more games come out, we'll also see larger memory cards. Nintendo has done the right thing in keeping the initial card small until a larger one is more direly needed; by then, memory prices will have lowered and the card will be produceable for far less.

Works well, but small storage,

The Nintendo Memory Card 59 is a must for all gamecube owners. Due to the disc-based games that the Gamecube uses, you need a memory card to save your progress.I highly recommend buying a memory card like this that is made by Nintendo instead of a memory card by a third-party company that may be a few dollars cheaper or bigger because they are notorious for losing data. I have never had trouble losing data from a Nintendo memory card. One note of warning is this: If you already have a memory card and plan on getting an extra or something, wait until the Nintendo Memory Card 251 comes out in a few weeks. The memory card 251 is almost five times bigger than the memory card 59, but it will sell for about the same price.

I am not here to complain about space in fact I believe the space is fine. If you do not already know this card has 59 slots.Which is fine for games like smash bros., Monkey Ball, and Rogue Squadron but have you ever tried madden. Yes, I recently purchased the highly reccomended Madden 2002. It lived up to its expectations. The only downside was the fact that when I saved this it took up an entire card. I think nintendo needs to get more space on their cards or lower the amount of spots games like Madden 2002 take.

Reliable, but small,
This review is from: Memory Card 59 (Video Game)
I'm not quite sure why Nintendo even bothered releasing this memory card given it's relativly small memory capacity. But if there is one thing I can attest to it's that Nintendo's first party memory cards are far more reliable than those developed by other companies.Reliability Rating: 5 Stars But since the Memory Card 59 only slightly cheaper than Nintendo's now availiable Memory Card 251, I would highly encourage you to pick up the 251 instead. You will not be dissapointed.

Better off with the 251 Block Card,

You are better off with the black 251 block card. It holds moare than four times the data and is only a few measly bucks more. The 251 card is more than worth the extra money.

Does It's Job Incredibly,

Alot of people complain about how Nintendo's memory card only contains 59 blocks of memory. Rouge Leader takes 3 blocks, Wave Race takes 11, Super Smash Brothers takes 12, and Pikmin takes 19. Yes, it's small, but the games are adequate to the card's space. This card is the only one made by Nintendo -- thus making it compatible with ALL GCN games, with no flaws whatsoever. Third party cards are not always compatible with ALL games, and sometimes corrupt data. The Memory Card 59 does it's job with no flaws. Get it and don't worry about hassle.

If you like Madden, GET MORE CARDS!,
By Evad the Merciless (Tampa, FL USA) - See all my reviews

This card works well for the average save-me-here games, taking up 1-3 blocks of memory. Rogue Leader only takes up one block. However, if you're going to play franchise mode in Madden, you'll need the whole card(and possibly more) for one game! It's a fast load-and-save time. They need a larger card, though. When more complex games come out soon, I hope Nintendo heeds my warning and makes a bigger card, or at least something to compress the memory. Otherwise, there are going to be a lot of upset gamers come summertime.

I have been using this item with a Japanese version on the Gamecube for a month now and it is screaming for me to fill it with more information. It holds all my game saves from 4 different titles and doesn't even break a sweat. Some people will say that the PS2 has an 8MB memory card so why does Nintendo's store so little? Because it doesn't need to have a 8MB memory card since game saves files are smaller (so far) so why build a bigger box if you can not fill the smaller one?

As far as memory cards go- a little dissapointing,

I have been playing videogames for about 3 years, not seriously, but sometimes I like to delve into a good game on a weekend. I had a nintendo 64 and bought a dreamcast when it was cheap, the n64 saved on the cartridge, but the dreamcast required a memory card (and had a very lucrative one with I think it was 128 blocks of memory, each file taking up about 15 blocks) I was pleased with the dreamcast card, but this one seems lesser. Gamecube and its games are fantastic, and yes, the best gamecube game (Rogue leader 2) does only require one block. However, the 2nd and 3rd games, (Super Smash Brothers Melee and Pikmin)take up 11 and 12 blocks respectively. Also, there was no LCD screen as I got used to and enjoyed with the dreamcast pack. However, the fact still is you have to save if you want to play past the first few levels and not waste a day or power leaving the system on. You have to buy a memory pack, and this is probably as good as it gets. The good thing is its cheap, you might need two or three if you want to store your saves and not rewrite over all that hard work, but the fact is, either you buy this, or you don't save.
