Book Description

The Memory Maker is a unique scrapbook designed to make remembering the formative school years easy by keeping track of the significant events that take place from Kindergarten to Grade 7. The book's award-winning design makes it easy to create a comprehensive and lasting keepsake for your child.

The Memory Maker is conveniently divided into 8 vibrantly colored sections where kids can record their favorite things, their academic and extra-curricular achievements and all kinds of other milestones reached during the school year.

Each grade has its own giant pocket for report cards, drawings, and other important papers, and there's plenty of space set aside for photos. Using the provided, mess-free, Magic Dots photo adhesives, kids can arrange class pictures, team photos or images of friends and family in any layout they like.

Unlike other scrapbooks, The Memory Maker does not require a great deal of time or a Ph.D. in creativity to complete. The book has a simple fill-in-the blank format and lots of room for photos and drawings which means kids can get as creative as they like without being overwhelmed by masses of blank space.

The Memory Maker is made with the highest quality acid-free papers, and it is built to expand with a double-wiro spine.

This book, full of memories in the making, is a gift that will last many lifetimes.

From the Inside Flap

Tips on using The Memory Maker:

1. Even if your child is finished Kindergarten, it doesn't mean it's too late to start The Memory Maker. We recommend starting the book any time from Kindergarten to Grade 3. If you've missed a year, you and your child can have fun filling in the blanks by talking about the past. If you get stuck try school or medical records, and newspaper archives. Best of all, you can put all the documents you've been accumulating into the useful pockets.

2. In the early school years, children will need help filling in The Memory Maker. Make it a special event and put aside some time to work on it together. Filling in the pages may just become a family tradition so that even when children are old enough to complete the book on their own, they will still come to you to do it with them.

3. Who's in the News? and What's in the News? can be used in many different ways. Write a headline, take a clipping from a newspaper, make a list of important events or fill the space with a photograph. You can concentrate on news of the world or news of the home, it's up to you.

4. Put your class picture on the red divider pages, as an introduction to each year.

5. We have included 2 sheets of Magic Dots with each book. These unique Australian photo adhesives are 100% repositionable and they easily rub off the backs of photos with only a finger.

6. There are 6 blank pages at the back of each book. Kids can take the book to school at the end of the year for their classmates to sign and write messages. These pages can also be used for extra photos and drawings.

7. We have used only the highest quality acid free papers which will not yellow or fall apart over time. However, it is only paper and if it is not treated with care, it will tear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great keepsake! Great gift idea!, January 5, 2000
This review is from: The Memory Maker (Spiral-bound)
The Memory Maker is the perfect segue to the baby books I have been keeping for my children. The difference is that with The Memory Maker my kids can be actively involved in recording their milestones, achievements and development. I love the envelopes included in every section (K through 7) to save all keepsakes, report cards and other mementos. The acid free paper is another bonus. My only regret is that The Memory Maker wasn't around when I was growing up. If you're looking for an original, lasting gift to buy, either for your children or for friends with children, this is the ideal present.

I chose this book over the others as it appeared the most modern and appealing to the eyes. The cover is nice and sturdy, I don't have to worry about it ripping or tearing loose from the ring binding. The first page opens to Kindergarten, and each new grade page is a thick purple color page with the grade level printed on it. That page is blank (except for the grade level written on it in silver) and I use it to stick pictures from that year on it. The next page in each grade level is thick white paper that has a spot for you to put a picture of your family on it. It then has an area where you put your current height, weight, shoe size and the date. The rest of that page is a list for the child to fill in of their favorite things...color, toy, book, movie, game, tv show etc. It is the same questions for each year. The back side of that page lets the child list the names of the kids in their class, their after school activities, what they want to be when they grow up and a few other questions. The next page is a white folder that opens at the top for you to put items in. You can also stick photos on the outside of it, with the back of that folder page giving a few more things to fill in. Like great places I visited this year, milestones, special gifts.
Basically that is what you get for each year from K-7th grade. A bright sturdy first page, then a white page to write on and then a folder to fill in and also write on, or put pictures on.
That is really enough for me, the only complaint is the folder page. It is the exact size of a standard peice of paper. Getting one paper in that size is okay, but more than that and it gets harder. I had to trim some certificates she got, and putting in some of the artwork was hard, also had to be trimmed. If they had just made it a quarter inch wider and longer, it would be easy to put things in there. Knowing that now, I still would have bought this book as it is not a major problem, and I really should save artwork in a special book by itself. I thought it was a little costly compared to some of the others, although not being able to actually see and hold the others, they might not be as sturdy.
