Biography

Sleepytime Trio started out in Harrisonburg, Virginia, as a side project of the band Maximillian Colby in the fall of 1994. Sleepytime Trio was originally Drew Ringo on guitar, Ben Davis on bass, and Jonathan Fuller on drums. They played shows around the mid-Atlantic region and then in the summer of '95 added guitarist Dave Nesmith who played with Drew in Maximillian Colby. As Maximillian Colby… Read more in Amazon's Sleepytime Trio Store

5.0 out of 5 stars simply amazing, May 4, 2002
By
This review is from: Memory Minus (Audio CD)
I personally believe that the Sleepytime Trio are the greatest band in the mid/late-90's screamo scene. While this CD may not have the most stellar production, the rawness shows that they had little need for studio trickery, instead relying on their amazing song writing ability and phenominal energy. Listening to songs such as "Jesus Extract" makes me well up and want to start screaming alongside them, no matter where I am (thankfully, I have a little more restraint than that). Members went on to form other bands, such as Bats And Mice, Ben Davis (the bassist's solo project), Engine Down, Milemarker, and The Rah Bras. It's amazing that these guys can consistently persue their every musical whim, and with each endevor come out with truely amazing music.

This is definitely the best album that I own.

Memory minus is not only the best cd of 1998, but the best cd of the 1990's, hands down. The CD makes me shake my booty like Norman Smiley. Also, these guys are HOT!

5.0 out of 5 stars this cd is phat, June 25, 2004

This review is from: Memory Minus (Audio CD)
i remember when these guys started and they had this funny 7" record w/ bunnies on it....then the music on the record.....oh man. it then seams normal how much these guys mean even now. their music is so angular and dense yet so controlled and almost dreamy and tribal at ther same time, there were only a few other doing similar things. but the rythmic sense of this band is what made it a truly driving emotional force. such fierce drums, and edgy guitars combined with the soft loud dynamic allowed them to just rip it up. interesting compositions, unbridled angst, and beauty and angles. it can easily be compared to other great bands like hoover and june of 44 for its mathematical diversity and heavy basslines. but thank god for drummers who are so free and versatile in their composure to keep the beat and keep the intensity. this cd has just as much power and creative lean in todays music society that it is worth owning if youve ever been into indie and punk rock. ever.
