5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SDHC CARD READER!
Works right out of the box! Bought this to supplement an SDHC memory card. Although my digital camera supported SDHC, the internal card reader of my laptop was not compatible with SDHC despite software updates and enhancements to support SDHC. The moment I installed this on my laptop, it immediately recognized it and started downloading the pictures from the SDHC card...

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke within hours
This reader was very easy to use for the couple of hours that it worked. The write speed is slower than more expensive readers, so it took absolutely forever to download about 45 minutes of HD video (to be more precise, it took 3 hours). I imagine that's what killed this little device, though I can't be certain. It just stopped working. For a buck, this would probably be a good investment if you're storing data or pictures or anything other than video. I'll probably get another one just to see if it was a fluke, but I'm pretty irritated at the moment.

The moment I installed this on my laptop, it immediately recognized it and started downloading the pictures from the SDHC card. Its very handy and its fast too! It is USB 2.0 and can be used with a regular SD, MMC, and MicroSD (regular & high capacity). Nothing to complain about. It has a light indicator to let you know that you are connected with your PC. Overall, a wonderful experience with this product and the seller (eforcity). I highly recommend this if you have a PC that is not compatible with SDHC.

5.0 out of 5 stars No frills, fast, solidly built, and small, October 20, 2009

I just now tested this out with a 4GB file copy in Linux, and it works perfectly.
It is able to move the data to the level I would expect for my superfast 16GB class 10 Adata SDHC card.
The reader also has a neat little retainer that keeps the cap that covers the SDHC card attached to the reader itself when it is opened.
A word to those unfamiliar with these retainers is that you need to be careful the first time you pull that cap off to insert your SD card, or you will snap its retaining clips right off.
Just as long as you exercise a little care in pulling that cap rearward, it will stay put as you insert your card, then snap it back over it.
I like the retainer, since it ensures that little cap does not get separated from the reader, and the reader is well built, more solid than most other similar sized readers, with the cap that covers the USB plug having a very good snap that keeps it in place.
Another small matter with this reader that makes it appeal to me is that it works unusually well with Linux, with even the LED on it turning off when I give the eject command to the reader.
Trust me when I say that a lot of SD card readers work poorly with Linux, with some failing in mid-copy, not having their LED shut down upon the eject command, and pitifully slow I/O.
This card reader is one of the best out there, and I will get more of them if I purchase more SDHC cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Memory Card Reader, September 23, 2009

When I bought my SDHC card I thought that it would be relativity easy to upload data onto the card. After trying countless times i finally gave up and decided to buy a memory card reader. The main reason that I bought this product was the cheap price and the reliability that the reviews showed. After using the product for about a month now I think it works great, the read/write speeds are fantastic and the design that keeps the back cover attached is great. The product also came in a very fast time. Overall great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap- buy more than one!, September 15, 2009

I've been holding off getting a memory card reader for about 6 months-- needed a new reader for my SDHC cards. Put it off due to cost.

Found these, bought 2 just in case since they were cheap. Received them today-- transferred 2GB of raw photos in about 2 minutes on my iMac (2009). Its pretty compact and reads fast (less than 5secs). It acts just like a USB drive. In fact you could probably use it as such if you wanted to. There a bright, red LED that lights up when it's plugged in.

VERY VERY pleased! I'd would recommend buying more than one- they're so cheap. However I don't expect these to last over a year but even so I was happy to pay $4 (including s+h) for 2 readers. At the time of purchase I paid, I paid less than a dollar.

very good deal!

***UPDATE***

its been about 2 months since i bought these. one of them cracked already (light crack on the front part from trying to pull off the cap- which is a bit snug). the plastic is not as strong as it looks. if you want these to last you'll probably have to handle them a bit carefully. im still pleased though. bought 3 more just for backups.

**UPDATE** (2/21/09)
i noticed B&H Photo now sells a product very very similar to this one, and they sell them for $15. You can buy 5 of these for that price. sorry to hear all the bad reviews but i bought these way back when they were something like 80¢ and all 5 of them still work. perhaps you guys just don't know how to handle cheap plastic but... I still think this is a very good deal. i think some of those negative posts are phony. i reiterate... buy more than one.
cheers

I plugged in my SD card, plugged this unit into my LINUX laptop, and now I have another usb thumbdrive.

Quick, simple, effective, cheap.

Perfect for my parents to put new pics on the card for their digital picture frame. Plug it in, drag and drop.

FOUR DOLLARS FOLKS. can't go wrong. came in TWO DAYS.

This product was bought for use in my office so I didnt have to worry about my personal & very expensive adapter getting stolen. It works great I havent had any problems with it and the its nice you can store your memory card in the adapter when you are taking it from place to place.

Looking at all the available card readers, and the WIDE range of prices, I decided to buy this one because it has some good reviews from Amazon buyers. And I guess I've kind of come to rely on that. Plus, at a price of 0.64 cents and [...]2 bucks shipping, I figured I really couldn't go wrong. But in the back of my head I was thinking, "You get what you pay for."

Well, in this situation, you get more than what you pay for. I received mine in the mail today and it works great on my Mac. I've only used it once, so I cannot speak to longevity. But it appears sturdy and it was "plug and play" right out of the box.

I ordered from Eforcity and it arrived FAST.
