memphis album, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Memphis Album (Audio CD)
this cd is one of my favourite cds of all time. all the songs guy sings are brilliant and while the songs are not sung in the way that they were by the original artists, these are definitely among the best covers of these songs that ever have or will be performed or recorded. Especially breath-taking is the song "I've Been Loving You Too Long" as Guy sings the ad lib part at the end with such great emotion. his voice sounds particularly suited to the song "I Can't Stand The Rain" and he shows his amazing vocal range in the song "Respect Yourself". also one of the greatest songs on the album is the song that he himself wrote "I'd Like To Get To Know You", the lyrics may be a little cheesy for some people's taste, but the song is spectacular! once you've listened to this cd a couple of times you can't help but fall in love with it!

What an amazing Voice!! Soulful and Passionate!!, August 10, 2008
This review is from: Memphis Album (Audio CD)
The brilliance and versatility of Guy Sebastian's voice is no secret to anyone who has ever heard him sing. What has been revealed on this album is Guy's glorious interpretation of these classic songs and the way he can sing this kind of material so powerfully and passionately!! SOUL music is in his blood and it is obvious to all that Guy has grown up on a steady diet of the Soul genre.
These are classic Memphis songs recorded with the original STAX Band comprising of Steve Cropper, Donald Duck Dunn, Lester Snell and Steve Potts. All tracks were recorded the 'old school' way with singer and musicians in the studio together and 11 of the 14 tracks are first takes and this is what you hear on the album - just amazing and you have to be a very good singer with amazing vocal control to pull it off!
I highly recommend this album to any one who is wanting to revisit or is new to the genre of SOUL. It is a brilliant contribution to the Memphis Soul Sound!
