5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Companion to Col. Morgan's Autobiography, February 22, 2007
By
This review is from: The Memphis Belle (Paperback)
Duerksen, a journalist, did a great job covering the story of the Memphis Belle. The biographies of each of the men who flew the Belle are laid out nicely. Most people think that there was only one crew of ten men, when actually several men came and went during the 25 missions. Flight Engineer Gene Atkins for instance. He neither began nor ended the 25 missions with the Memphis Belle, yet he flew more missions on her in that position than the man who completed the famed 25th mission. This was the standard on the Memphis Belle for years. Col. Morgan's "The Man Who Flew the Memphis Belle" covers a lot of territory, but Duerksen's book is still a must read and should sit on your shelf next to Morgan's.
