5.0 out of 5 stars The original feel-good music
This music has always had a special place in my heart, and as an Americana gospel performer, I go back to this style much in playing for church and coffeehouse gigs. If you want to go mining for good solid tunes to play, go here or buy Harry Smith's Anthology of Folk Music. It is one of maybe 10 sources for evidence in a course I would call Americana 101. Unlike Louis...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good music/Bad Packaging
While the music on these CDs was intact I have to question the "new" description. This was the first time I used this seller (Vinyl Sounds Better) and will probably be the last. Rather than "new' it looked like the item was used re-shrinkwrapped. The packaging was old and battered. There are definates signs of wear on the cardboard and the jewel cases were broken as well...

This review is from: Memphis Jug Band with Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers (Audio CD)
This music has always had a special place in my heart, and as an Americana gospel performer, I go back to this style much in playing for church and coffeehouse gigs. If you want to go mining for good solid tunes to play, go here or buy Harry Smith's Anthology of Folk Music. It is one of maybe 10 sources for evidence in a course I would call Americana 101. Unlike Louis Armstrong, who was making a big town name for jazz and blues at the time, this is the street music played in the rural South and Memphis.
It is hard not to smile when you hear this wobbly stuff...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great jug music, December 28, 2009

This review is from: Memphis Jug Band with Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers (Audio CD)
A fairly comprehensive collection of memphis Jug Band numbers including most of the favourites as well as some precious gems such as Jug Band Waltz. Other artists are excellent, especially the collection of Cannon's Jug Stompers. A must have for anyone interested in jug music or blues. Best of all the compilations I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memphis Jug Band And Gus Cannon, June 18, 2007
This review is from: Memphis Jug Band with Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers (Audio CD)
This style of music may not be for everyone. It is played on old moonshine jugs and vocals. I think it is an excellent collection of work. If you are a fan of JUG music I say put this in your collection. If you are wondering what JUG music is all about get this collection and it will turn you into a permanent fan for life. TRUEL NEAT.

4.0 out of 5 stars The jug band album to get, October 17, 2010

This review is from: Memphis Jug Band with Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers (Audio CD)
This to my knowledge is the best single collection of jug band music currently available, and can be highly recommended to anyone interested in that music, or as an introduction to anyone who wants to have at least one album of it. The remastering is very good, and the liner notes good. I think most people would agree that, though all the discs are enjoyable, the final Cannon's Jug Stompers disc is head and shoulders above the others: I'd give that one individually five stars. This set will also appeal to fans of classic rock, who will find in it the originals of songs later covered by major rock, folk rock, and folk revival artists, like Stealin', Stealin', Viola Lee Blues, Walk Right In, and Bring It With You When You Come.
