Mem Shannon, the new king of New Orleans Blues, has become one of the strongest, coolest and most refreshing voices in modern blues. It's no surprise at all that he's been nominated for a couple of major Blues Music awards.
There's a song on this album, Drowning on My Feet, that's so compelling that I even asked him if I could quote it my next novel (Dead Man's Song -due out in Jun 2007 from Pinnacle Books). Mem gave me a thumbs up. The whole album, MEMPHIS IN THE MORNING, is one of those multi-personality records that so rarely come along. It can be a great sunny-day driving record, or it can be a smoky late in the evening getting romantic record. It has that kind of range.

If you are looking for down home blues with a big, full sound, then this is for you. These songs bring both wry humor and gut feeling to the music that blues are famous for.

great cd with many types of swing the cd has a great cover of bb kings "why i sing the blues" to the mellow soul of "memphis in the morning". if you like guitars mixed with horns this cd is for you
