Editorial Reviews

Former Coen brothers cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld has carved out a nice, if unlikely, niche as one of the '90s most consistently succesful directors (The Addams Family, Get Shorty), and the megahit alien spoof Men in Black only enhanced that reputation. The film's quirky MIB orchestral score by Danny Elfman is represented here by just two cuts; the feel-good hip-hop grooves of star Will Smith, Snoop Doggy Dogg, A Tribe Called Qwest, and others that take center stage instead. Still, a more convincing argument for "positive rap" would be hard to imagine. --Jerry McCulley

3.0 out of 5 stars To Your Inquiry June 30, 2005
Format:Audio CD
To All those who wish to know the Elvis song played while J and K are traversing the tunnell to Queens, the song is "Promised Land" on his album also titled "Promised Land"

5.0 out of 5 stars Title of the original October 2, 2005
Format:Audio CD
The title of the original song was Forget Me Nots and I'm pretty sure it was by Patrice Rushen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still as good as ever!! October 30, 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I originally bought this album on cassette when it was first released, cos I didn't have a cd player at the time. 9 years later, after probably hundreds of plays, that poor tape got so worn out I had to try and find it on cd....which just DIDN'T happen in any Australian store, or any place I could order it here. Amazon, however, came to my rescue! Even after almost a decade, this music is still as good as it was in '97, and anyone who says otherwise needs their head read!

Men In Black, like most soundtracks these days, only has maybe a few related songs to the movie. The rest are just fillers. Still, it isn't too bad. In my view, Will Smith's original "Men In Black" song will always be the theme to me (didn't care for the one he made for the second film). I also liked the debuts of Alicia Keys and Destiny's Child as well. DC pretty much showed what was to come later. Alicia's showed off her musical skills but not her voice so it was a surprise that she came correct as she did later on.
The rest of the songs were okay but the Snoop Dogg/JT song "Get Down On It" stands out as well as The Roots/D'Angelo song. Wouldn't pay full price for it but I'd buy it at a reduced price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Relaxation CD February 7, 2001
Format:Audio CD
Well, besides including the smash hit "Men in Black", this also has many other great songs by talented artists.
For the rap fan, well you got that here, including Snoop and Tribe. The song "Just Cruisin'" by Will Smith is the perfect song for that situation, and shows his talent, a thing that his latest efforts do not.
R+B fans got it here too, the highlight track being "The Notic" by the Roots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here comes the M.I.B. December 30, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Will Smith he's one of the 90's best rappers of the decade entertaining millions of fans all over the world as a singer and as an actor working in movies like Men In Black, sitcom like Fresh Prince of Bell Air. The music on this CD is great, is the kind of music that once you start listening you can't stop and end up putting signs all over the street inviting people to your party that's wjat this CD is for

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good CD December 27, 2001
By Katie
Format:Audio CD
This CD really isn't as bad as others may have you think. Of course the MIB title song is great, but my friends and I just LOVED #2 (Just Wanna Party With You) and actually my original MIB CD is so scratched and nonoperable from tons of use that I'm getting another one. Also if you're looking for some of the great Alicia Key's earlier works, you'll find her voice on this soundtrack in a pretty good song.
