Must Reading,
By
This review is from: Men Are Just Desserts (Paperback)
I read this book for the first time 20 years ago and it still has a lasting effect on how I think about relationships. It's a simple book that carries significant lessons on how girls are taught to deal with males in their lives. I consider it must reading for young mothers of girls, all men, and everyone who wonders why it is so hard to develop relationships that are based on good communications. No jabs, just clear observations and logical advice. You'll find yourself wondering why you never saw the obvious. You owe it to your sons and daughters to read and pass on this book.

Sort out Your Feelings Towards Men,

This review is from: Men Are Just Desserts (Paperback)
This was an important book for women in the 1980s as we struggled to gain equality with men in the workplace but still had Mom's messages churning in our heads. It's still an important book for women wanting to figure out where their male/female conflicts and behavior comes from. Distant or missing fathers, adored daddies, dominant mothers, and other scenarios affect our grown-up relationships.

This book is an enduring treasure. You may find some language a bit outdated but the essential wisdom is solid. As a counselor, I hear the same gender-related issues as were prevalent 40 years ago, many of which come from the female tendency to let a relationship replace self development. Friedman clarifies how critical it is to be a full person in one's own right before committing to a significant other. I've recommended it to many mothers of daughters, several of whom said *they* benefitted even more than the daughter.

I found this book extremely useful, explaining issues I've been wondering for some time - what and why happens:-) Much more useful than books like Men are from Mars, Women from Venus etc. - this one goes to the core.
