About the Author

THE MEN IN THE MUSTARD HATS completes Greg Spalding's trilogy about the Pirates of the early '70's. Inspired by Bob Prince and other sports commentators/writers, Spalding originally wrote the first manuscript back in 1975 as a 15-year-old. He sent his work to then Pirate PR Director Bill Guilfoile, who encouraged Greg with the following words,"I enjoyed reading the material you sent me and I wish you good luck in your efforts to write a book about the Pirates." He followed through on his dream and ended up with a trilogy, which also includes SAILING THE THREE RIVERS TO THE TITLE, about the '71 World Champions, and THE CLASSIEST TEAM BASEBALL EVER KNEW, about the 1972 NL Eastern Division Champions. Spalding belongs to the Society for American Baseball Research and has also written SHINE! ALL-STARS, SHINE!, about the '94 MLB All-Star Game; RUN THE GREATEST RACE, about running life's race; and THREE RIVERS THAT SPAWNED THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS, a detailed history of the exploits of the Pirate and Steeler exploits at Three Rivers Stadium. Greg edited and published BASEBALL'S BEST KEPT SECRET, the autobiography of Al Oliver.

Spalding also serves as the Research Analyst for SPORTSWEEK, a weekly tv sports magazine produced at Cornerstone TV(WPCB), that's hosted by Tom McGough. He lives with his wife Lilly and son Carlos in the City of Champions.
