This review is from: Men Should Come With Instruction Booklets: A Cathy Collection (Paperback)
As usual, Guisewite takes us on a guided tour of every emotional state a woman is able to challenge herself with. Cathy is a synonym for "paradox". she is strong but fragile, smart but naive, dedicated and efficient professionally but a total mess in her love life, a woman who zooms back to childhood faster than one can say "pigtails" when facing her mother, who shows great willingness to improve her life but is "willpower challenged" when it comes to food and shopping... and the list is non exhaustive. Every page is a pleasure to read, and laughing while reading Cathy is like finally being able to laugh at ourselves, losing all feeling of guilt on the way for being exactly like her in our own every day life.
I guess there are 2 ways to go through "Cathy's life": either by picking books at random and end up feeling like Cathy's best friend, trying to understand -not always successfully- her very complicated love life, or by letting the story unfold progressively (approx. a 20 years adventure spread on a book per year, to be read following printing/publication years).
