This review is from: The Men Who Stare At Goats (Original Soundtrack) (MP3 Download)
Hmmm. Where does one start.
(1) The medium: rather than getting a CD in the mail, or in a music store, I downloaded this. Not a bad idea! It took seconds, cost not much more than half of what it would have cost me had I purchased it elsewhere. It downloads very simply onto iTunes in which you can keep in on your iPod or run it off as a CD. A couple of things to consider: Do you like a "formal," commercial looking CD that you can put in your collection? If so, then you should get something to print on a CD to make yours look that way. (As vain as it might seem, I print out nearly all the CDs and DVDs I run off. I don't have to attempt to read my own handwriting otherwise, and, it looks kind of--well--professional!) (2) I enjoyed the movie. (If you like, you can see my review here on Amazon.com). It was almost like a series of sight gags rather than having much of a plot. Then I bought the book (which I haven't read yet) and found that it's based on something the army was really trying (!) Anyway, I've liked soundtracks for years. Often there's a theme, or something I can relate to, something to make me smile, or bring a tear to my eye (*sniff...sniff*) So I thought I'd try this one. Yeah, yeah, I knew what I was getting with the "preview" format--thanks, Amazon. But there was one song, I think from the band Boston, that made up the film's "subject matter." That's NOT on the soundtrack. It really should have been. Hence my three star review. No themes worth recalling on what was provided. Oh, well. It's a good idea to get a soundtrack at a fraction of the cost of a CD purchase from a store, and I do have it. Maybe some friends will recognize the music when I play it at a party... |
