A unique look into human nature,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Men With Women (Paperback)
Men With Women is a collection of thirteen short-stories by award-winning playwright Joseph Hullett. The individual pieces comprising this outstanding anthology include: The Girl in the Red 'Vette; Outside Mombasa; He Rarely Thought of Her At All; Grunion Hunt; Something Borrowed, Something Blue; Father's Day; Gift of the Maggie; Tattoos; Friends; Rhapsody; End Zone; True Believer; And All Ye Need. Written around the core theme of relationships and the flaws within the male heart, Men With Women offers both a unique look into human nature and a thought-provoking experience in the ups and downs of male-female romantic interactions.

The Other Half,
By Jessica Fallon (Mission Viejo, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Men With Women (Paperback)
An actress friend recommended this book since I loved the women in Hullett's play Confirmation. I was leery at first -- a book about men? -- but I found myself enthralled by these characters and came away with a different perspective on the other half. J.F. -- student, UCI

Never Alone and Always Lonely,
By Robert Kester (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Men With Women (Paperback)
Men with Women (a gutsy twist on the Hemingway title) is a wrenching collection of short stories focusing on men -- creatures Hullett casts as tragic figures who, although never really alone, must stand apart to define themselves. Hullett's skills as an award-winning playwright are obvious in crisp dialog that renders genuinely poignant many of these self-made souls. I particularly liked Outside Mombasa, a tale of men told by a woman. Rhapsody has a razor edge, Grunion Hunt is disturbing, and And All Ye Need is one of the most romantic little pieces I have ever read. Robert Kester, English teacher, Los Angeles
