Encouraging & Informative eye-opener,
By Trish Neeves (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Men, Women, and Prostate Cancer: A Medical and Psychological Guide for Women and the Men They Love (Paperback)
I was asked to read this book by the Prostate Cancer Charity in UK and on first sight my heart sank. Full of dry medical information - how wrong I was! My husband had a radical prostatectomy in 1997 and has recovered well but I still found encouraging material - especially about managing impotence. The book covers all aspects of prostate cancer - from diagnosis to living with the results of treatment. It deals with the medical terms and emotional effects of each stage in a down to earth manner. I also really valued the fact that it was written to me - the woman. It made me feel understood in a way that much of literature doesn't as it all male orientated. Enjoy reading it as you approach stage by stage and keep dipping into for knowledgeable reassurrance. My one regret was that all the helpful contact numbers and addresses were all American.

Which test for prostate cancer is NOT recommended?
What specifically to say to a child about the patient's illness? The coping strategies that relieve stress and manage emotions -- in both caregiver and patient. How to handle the nitty-gritty realities of sex and intimacy? Which tips help alleviate incontinence? Very helpful, and highly recommended!

THIS BOOK CAPTURES OUR ATTENTION. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SKIM OVER "ONE WORD" SINCE WE BEGAN READING IT. EVEN THE TECHNICAL AND MEDICAL ASPECTS ARE CAPTIVATING. IT'S WHAT MOST WOMEN NEED WHO EXPERIENCE THIS TRUAMATIC ISSUE. WANT TO HEAR MORE FROM THESE AUTHORS. SINCERE THANK YOU. GREAT BOOK!

NOt everyone has a woman to help them,
This review is from: Men, Women, and Prostate Cancer: A Medical and Psychological Guide for Women and the Men They Love (Paperback)
I saw this book online, and thought, who are they writing for. I then read it and felt entirely left out. The authors barely suggest that gay men exist on this planet and many of them have prostate cancer. Thank goodness for other books and [...]for helping out of a pickle. At best, this book uses the word love, but does not seem to include me.
