1.0 out of 5 stars So tired of the same old gender stereotypes
Well, this is a 'must-have' if you want confirmation of the prejudices you hold about how men and women behave. Here we go with the 'women are subjective and caring' and 'men are objective and task-orientated' tush yet again. If that is the case then my husband and I must be aliens because we behave in opposite ways to that which is described in this book. For all those...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Advice for Stressful Times, April 9, 2009
This review is from: Men, Women and Relationships: Making Peace with the Opposite Sex (Paperback)
"There will always be obstacles to overcome in sustaining a loving relationship. Too often men assume that once they are married, the work of having a relationship is over. Realistically, that is when it begins." ~pg. 124

"Men, Women and Relationships" is the perfect book for troubled times. It is difficult enough to keep a relationship healthy when you are in love and life is going the way you want it to go. After a few years and an added dose of life's inevitable stress men and women start to show different sides of themselves. Men start to withdraw and women become dissatisfied and overwhelmed. This book shows how to deal with these issues especially when stress is the cause.

"Women correct men because they think it will motivate or help them to change. The truth is, it just makes them more stubborn and unyielding." ~ pg. 159

John Gray also discusses how men and women process information and how they can argue less and agree more. Men are instructed to listen more and women are instructed to be a little less nurturing so men don't feel smothered. There is a good section on why women feel unloved that includes a list of suggestions to counter the symptoms of a bad relationship.

If you are serious about your relationship then this book is essential reading. I've read most of John Gray's books and this one had some new and useful information that helped me understand my own marriage on a deeper level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not all new info, but still a good read ...., February 18, 2008

I've read several of the M/V books and this one isn't all new info, but it did help me to understand some basic differences in men and women. I wouldn't put it at the top of the list of must-reads, but I think overall, it's worth your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and Insightful, December 15, 2005
This review is from: Men, Women and Relationships: Making Peace with the Opposite Sex (Paperback)
Rarely does a book do such a good job informing the reader in a way that can change lives. John Gray helps the reader understand there are inevitable differences between men and women and the key to success in relationships is to understand and navigate those differences rather than to try and change or ignore them. I also highly recommend Men in Marriage: Straight Talk For Men About Marriage: What Men Need to Know About Marriage (And What Women Need to Know About Men)by Marty Friedman.

It's unfortunate THIS BOOK was NOT the one that sold 50 million copies like "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus"

This book it 10 times the Mars/Venus book.

Should be recommended reading for anyone even considering marriage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Food for Thought, November 18, 2011
This review is from: Men, Women and Relationships: Making Peace with the Opposite Sex (Paperback)
This book is not meant for us to place women and men into cookie cutting, identical, stereotype traits or personalities. For me, this book gave me better understanding and insight as to what's going on within myself and my relationships.

It's understanding and accepting your partner's differences, and how to communicate effectively to meet each other needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for this book!!!, January 27, 2008

This review is from: Men, Women and Relationships: Making Peace with the Opposite Sex (Paperback)
I would recommend this book to anyone who needs help communicating with, or is filled with resentment toward, their spouse. I would also get a highlighter out and start using it at the begining! I laughed over and over again while reading this book because it was truly as if the author was speaking directly to my husband and I! I never thought it would be THAT good, but it was! Things are so much better now, but it takes practice so this book remains on our shelf for later reference!

First time reading any of Dr. Grey's Venus and Mars books. This was excellent. Both my husband and I gained a tremendous amount of insight as to mind of the opposite sex and how we relate to different situations. I highly recommend it, especially if you are having trouble understanding how your partner does what she/he does.
