delightful performance, May 5, 2008

This performance, like some other RCA /Philadelphia recordings, has slightly muffled sound. That's too bad, since the performance is sprightly and detailed. It is a pleasure to hear an orchestra so easily delineate the overture and character pieces. The score is complete and English is used. Judith Blegen is delightful in her singing. While this is not probably the best version - Previn comes to mind - it is a close second, and the price helps a lot.
