Editorial Reviews

Review

4 Blue Ribbons. "A sweet, charming romance about two lonely people who are trying to learn how to trust again. Author Lucy Francis skillfully combines an engaging story with well written and likable characters to create a highly enjoyable story." --Romance Junkies Reviews

4 Stars. " Mending Fences is a wonderful heartwarming book you curl up with when you want to escape into another world. Lucy was successful in making these characters believable, and getting you to care about not only the main couple but the secondary couple as well." --Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

About the Author

Lucy Francis grew up with characters living in her head, clamoring for attention. Whether those characters were elves, knights, aliens or earthlings, she listened and wrote their tales, which always included love. She still listens, plays matchmaker, and scribbles the resulting stories. Lucy has lived all over the United States, but calls Utah home. She lives with her husband, five children, and a pet menagerie that once included nine different species. She loves horses, fixing broken things, Irish dancing and tending the urban forest she planted in her front yard.

More About the Author

Hi, I'm Lucy, and I write romances. Why? Because there's nothing quite as fun and satisfying as creating two people who are perfect for each other, dropping them into each other's lives, and watching them fall in love.

I've lived all across the United States, from New York to California, but Utah, with its incredibly varied terrain and vast stretches of gorgeous wild country, is home. I live with my hero, our five children, and a pet menagerie. I love horses, fixing broken things, Doctor Who and tending the urban forest I planted in my yard.

A man who's removed himself from society meets a woman with secrets of her own.

Curran Shaw is a CEO who made a spectacle of himself, dating starlets and being featured in tabloids, then he drops out of the public eye and moves to the mountains of Utah.

He encounters a mystery woman at a bar on Halloween. Both of them are masked, but she recognizes him. See, once upon a time she did a story on him. She doesn't let on, and leaves him with a kiss he can't get out of his head.

Months Victoria Linden is out riding when she encounters a bison tangled in a broken fence. She realizes the animal is tame and tries to help when Curran rides up. It's his bison, his land, and when the bison, called Peg Leg, is freed, Curran realizes she's the woman from the bar, the woman who kissed him.

She enters a cautious relationship with him but holds herself back. Not only is she hiding the fact that she was a reporter, knowing his reaction wouldn't be good, she's hiding some even more dangerous secrets.

I love the layers of this story--the way the secrets were revealed to the reader and the hero, and the way the secondary love story mirrors the main one. And I loved the gentle build of the romance. The characters grew together in a realistic yet romantic way.

All in all, a terrific debut!

I must say that the characters were more complex than I anticipated. After getting through the initial introduction of the main characters and establishing their initial attraction for each other, it got better and better from there. We know that Victoria and Curran fall in love, but their journey consists of more than your average personal demons. The obstacles were met with a lot of healing along the way, and I found myself rooting for the characters to find their happiness.

Ahhhh, true love is never easy. But, it is always worth the struggle when it comes with a happy ending. Emotions are written vividly and there is no shortage of conflict... kind of like life, eh mate? A great read with no other motive than to tell a good love story. Looking forward to her next one! Good job Lucy!

This book started out great and I thought this would be a fabulous story. However, as it went on, it became more and more unbelievable. It was also very predictable. Some scenes were totally unrealistic. Spoiler: I find it almost impossible to believe that Curran would put up with her coldness and lack of affection so long and impossible to believe that Victoria would not give in to him for so long!! Come on. Also, the scene where she finally makes love to Curran after being held at gunpoint and being knocked over the head and loosing consciousness is just rediculous. I am shocked there were so many positive reviews for this very mediocre story. Loved the first couple of paragraphs, but it went downhill from there.

I completely began engrossed in Ms Francis' book. She really brought to life the main characters as well as the secondary characters of her story. Without given away anything I adored the hero Curran, and though made out to be the bad guy at one point, which personally I was on his side, he is flawed and in the middle of a personal growth. Victoria has tons of secrets and at every corner one more comes out, she is justified in being cautious and yet she is no stupid female about to get walked on. It was a joy to read and follow them on their journey. I loved the fact that sex played a back seat to their relationship.

Looking for a nice sensual read, where love builds and trust is earned, check out this book.

I started this book not expecting anything great, but just the average read. Boy was I wrong. The author kept me completely engrossed with all the characters and how they were working together. Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. I started reading on my Kindle but ended up finishing it on my IPhone because every break I could take at work or elsewhere, I pulled it up to read some more. Great book, great storyline, going to be a great author. I recommend this to everyone.

The writing goes on and on about the most mundane things. Wished the action came sooner in the story. I love happy endings too, but to me this story didn't live up to its potential.

I found myself falling in love with these characters and wanting them to learn to trust each other. Victoria and Curran are likable, believable characters, and it is refreshing to see how they fall in "love" and not just "lust" with each other.
