Book Description

She was the first woman to turn him down.

CEO-turned-rancher Curran Shaw is no stranger to hard work, but women have never required much effort. When a mysterious brunette at a resort-town Halloween party sparks his interest and then vanishes, he vows to finish what she started. It's finding her that's going to be the hard part.

He was her fantasy, and that's all he could ever be.

Victoria Linden has reconstructed her life and soul from the devastation wrought by an abusive ex and her own failures. She desperately wants to be loved, but what man will agree to the control and limitations she needs in order to hold herself together? Especially a man like Curran, who's used to getting whatever he wants. Walking away from him after a searing kiss is her only option.

When serendipity brings them together in the snowy mountains of Utah, will Victoria and Curran be able to mend the fences in their hearts, or will discovery and heartbreak tear them apart?

Mending Fences is approx. 70,000 words long.

About the Author

Lucy Francis grew up with characters living in her head, clamoring for attention. Whether those characters were elves, knights, aliens or earthlings, she listened and wrote their tales, which always included love. She still listens, plays matchmaker, and scribbles the resulting stories. Lucy has lived all over the United States, but calls Utah home. She lives with her husband, five children, and a pet menagerie that once included nine different species. She loves horses, fixing broken things, Irish dancing and tending the urban forest she planted in her front yard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Debut Novel February 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A man who's removed himself from society meets a woman with secrets of her own.

Curran Shaw is a CEO who made a spectacle of himself, dating starlets and being featured in tabloids, then he drops out of the public eye and moves to the mountains of Utah.

He encounters a mystery woman at a bar on Halloween. Both of them are masked, but she recognizes him. See, once upon a time she did a story on him. She doesn't let on, and leaves him with a kiss he can't get out of his head.

Months Victoria Linden is out riding when she encounters a bison tangled in a broken fence. She realizes the animal is tame and tries to help when Curran rides up. It's his bison, his land, and when the bison, called Peg Leg, is freed, Curran realizes she's the woman from the bar, the woman who kissed him.

She enters a cautious relationship with him but holds herself back. Not only is she hiding the fact that she was a reporter, knowing his reaction wouldn't be good, she's hiding some even more dangerous secrets.

I love the layers of this story--the way the secrets were revealed to the reader and the hero, and the way the secondary love story mirrors the main one. And I loved the gentle build of the romance. The characters grew together in a realistic yet romantic way.

All in all, a terrific debut!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Weekend Read March 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I must say that the characters were more complex than I anticipated. After getting through the initial introduction of the main characters and establishing their initial attraction for each other, it got better and better from there. We know that Victoria and Curran fall in love, but their journey consists of more than your average personal demons. The obstacles were met with a lot of healing along the way, and I found myself rooting for the characters to find their happiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love A Happy Ending! February 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Ahhhh, true love is never easy. But, it is always worth the struggle when it comes with a happy ending. Emotions are written vividly and there is no shortage of conflict... kind of like life, eh mate? A great read with no other motive than to tell a good love story. Looking forward to her next one! Good job Lucy!

More About the Author

Hi, I'm Lucy, and I write romances. Why? Because there's nothing quite as fun and satisfying as creating two people who are perfect for each other, dropping them into each other's lives, and watching them fall in love.

I've lived all across the United States, from New York to California, but Utah, with its incredibly varied terrain and vast stretches of gorgeous wild country, is home. I live with my hero, our five children, and a pet menagerie. I love horses, fixing broken things, Doctor Who and tending the urban forest I planted in my yard.
