5.0 out of 5 stars Grabs the Heart and Doesn't let Go
Wow, what an amazing story! Mending Places took me to depths that challenged me to forgive what I thought was unforgiveable. Denise Hunter has an incredible talent to grip the heart. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I've read three other Denise Hunter books and loved them but this one was incredibly disappointing. I only made it halfway before putting it down. I found it slow and the characters seemed immature to me...maybe not developed enough. When Hanna confronts Micah and tells him that God told her they were meant to be together was the point where I just couldn't read anymore...

Where do we draw the line? Are some things too big for us--or for God--to forgive? Denise Hunter tackles this question in a way that shows God's ability to transform broken lives. A highly recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, March 31, 2004

It took a brave author to write a story like this! But she pulled it off with flying colors. The climax is stunning and emotional, and exemplifies the meaning of grace. An incredible story of healing and forgiveness, love and redemption.

I love this author's voice. She has an uncanny ability to just pull you into her world, and feel!! IT's a powerful story about true forgiveness, and very emotional. If you're looking for the new Karen Kingsbury, this is her!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mending Places, December 18, 2007

This was the first book that I have read by Denise Hunter. I really enjoyed it. The story is very interesting, and the characters are very likeable. She really throws a twist in at the end, and when it is over, you want the story to keep going. She is a very realistic Christian writer. I have been a Christain for over 25 years, and I am far from perfect, neither are her characters. There is a book two to Mending Places called Saving Grace. I plan to order that one as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars An edgy page-turner, October 11, 2005
This review is from: Mending Places (The New Heights Series #1) (Paperback)
Mending Places interested me from the beginning. I read the back cover and wanted to see how the author worked through the conflict. It was a bit slow to start (for me,) but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. The conflict with her sister's marriage was realistic and gut-wrenching, and I wish it had turned out with a happier ending, but hey, that's not reality. In regards to Hanna, I liked the way the author brought everything to a climax toward the ending. I felt Micah's pain as well as Hanna's. It is a wonderful story of forgiveness. Though it may seem unrealistic to some, I've known people in weirder situations. I liked the redemption piece and felt like the author handled the resolution beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars A timeless Christian forgiveness, achievement, and suspenseful romance story, November 15, 2010

Well over 6 years now since release, "MENDING PLACES" is YET A TREASURE. My purchase was at a charity sale. I recognized Denise Hunter's name as an author enjoyed earlier. Didn't recognize the title "Mending Places" so I gave it a try. A winning decision. What a good and complex story. What a compelling read. What a bargain at this date. And extra joy from my buy, unknown at purchase time, mine was signed.

There are a couple of violent behavior issues being dealt with in the story of Hanna Landlin, a Christian, a grandchild trying to help save the family Wyoming mountain inn. There are secrets that control the lives of the protagonist pair, the second being the new Tetons' trekker, Micah. He's also Christian.
Okay, from the get-go there's a health issue, an exploding marriage, a debt disaster, and one girl and one guy who, due to past horror, want nothing to do with the hormonal emotion each is feeling for the other. Grand Teton dysfunction!
Page 2 was even better. It seemed to go that fast.

I grabbed some grapefruit juice in a fluted glass (that's in the book) and knew there'd be a solid Christian ending because Denise Hunter's the author. The story, based on secrets, past negatives, & forgiveness shows that even Humpty Dumpty's of the world can be patched and healed by God.

The only thing I found in too short a supply was longer, lingering, visual, written descriptions of sights on the peaks; since I'm too old to hike mountains myself. Regardless, this is a timeless treasure of a Christian forgiveness, achievement, and suspenseful romance story. Each portion equally treated in depth and flavor.

"Cheers!" and the toast made with fluted sparkling grapefruit juice.
Also look at "Driftwood Lane: A Nantucket Love Story." Same author.

This is my 2nd Denise Hunter book that I have read, and I have to say she is AMAZING! It was a fluke that I picked up the first book I read of "sweetwater gap" and happy I am. Hunter is SO colorful and personal in her pieces. She quickly grabs you into the characters lives and emotions. Micah in this story is sadly living a turmoil that MANY people are sadly living. He struggles on a daily basis of personal forgivness that so many can relate to. You feel like a part of the story. The story line is so believable and you feel like the conflict could be happening to you.

THANK YOU Hunter, I am a FAN...keep the awesome pieces coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SERIES, May 16, 2010
This review is from: Mending Places (The New Heights Series #1) (Paperback)
Just finished reading "Mending Places" and "Saving Grace" and all I can say is "WOW". These books are great. I'm currently reading "Finding Faith", the third book in the series and can hardly put it down. Very believable story lines and what a great talent this author has in showing God's love and compassion for us all. This series will definitely not be the only books that I read by this author.
