Book Description

September 12, 2001
Sometimes when I sip from the cup of life, I taste pure nectar; other times it's more like unsweetened lemonade....quite honestly I need h-e-l-p! Patsy Clairmont is a bestselling author and inspirational speaker who has brought her upbeat message to more than a million people. Now MENDING YOUR HEART IN A BROKEN WORLD conveys her words about the power of faith in an especially personal way.

Here, for the first time, Patsy gives an account of the depression and anxieties that once kept her a virtual prisoner in her home. Then, with quotations you'll treasure, moving anecdotes, and astonishingly relevant Scripture from the Book of Nehemiah, she tells how she recovered-and how you can too. As endearing and funny as Patsy herself, MENDING YOUR HEART IN A BROKEN WORLD reassures us that our journey dreams and hearts can be made whole again.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

(Evangelical Christianity/Spirituality)Clairmont (God Uses Cracked Pots), an evangelical speaker on the national "Women of Faith" circuit, again addresses the topic of human brokenness and God's healing. This time she draws upon examples from the biblical book of Nehemiah (conveniently located in full text at the end of her book) to illustrate principles such as "lies that will do you in" and "everybody needs walls." Her writing, like her speaking, is lively, self-deprecating and humorous, though the comic asides that enliven her speaking are sometimes distracting in her writing: "How long has it been since you knelt to pray? Try it; you'll like it (even if you, like me, need help to get back up)." Clairmont relates anecdotes from her own life and the lives of her friends, as well as from the lives of Nehemiah and modern figures such as Eleanor Roosevelt. Chapters are easily digested snippets of under 10 pages. They begin with a short reading assignment from Nehemiah and end with a prayer, a prompt for reflection and application, and a lead-in to the next chapter. The link to Nehemiah is sometimes tenuous (chapter 12, on "wells," for example, is based on all of three verses). Still, Clairmont's friendly honesty about her own need for "mending" should resonate with readers who are still learning that "healing and journey are synonymous," and her lighthearted tips may help along the way. (Sept.)Forecast: Clairmont is a regular player on CBA bestseller lists, so she is a natural choice to help launch Warner's new Christian line. Print ads are planned for Today's Christian Woman, Christian Retailing and CBA Marketplace. Clairmont will promote the book on Christian radio and television stations, as well as onstage in 27 "Women of Faith" events across the country.

More About the Author

Patsy Clairmont's quick wit and depth of biblical knowledge combine in a powerful pint-size package. She helps you to laugh God's truths right into your heart. Her mission to provide humor and hope for healing comes from her own struggles. A recovering agoraphobic, Patsy speaks at Women of Faith conferences, addressing tens of thousands of women, and has written more than twenty-four books, including Catching Fireflies, All Cracked Up, and I Grew Up Little. She loves a rainy day, a good book, and a deep cushioned chair. Given a day off, she shops, solves the world's problems with a friend over lunch, and hugs the stuffing out of her two grandsons, Justin and Noah. Patsy and her husband of forty-seven years, Les, live in Tennessee.

This book is ideal for my free lending library I have been setting up for women I mentor. The chapters are short. Scriptures are used as well as personal testimony. It is very suitable for those women who are young in faith.-- Elaine Given
