Tragedy and comedy, and that's just the title!,

One day I hope to go to the Mendocino coast so as I began reading the title of Barbara Dorr Mullen's book, "The Mendocino coast, from the mouth of the Navarro to Westport; A loving guide for all the pioneers, pilgrims, printers, painters, philosophers, poets, ... others who cherish this edge of the world" I experienced a range of emotions that I must share.First off, who doesn't care about the Mendocino coast? I mean it begins at the mouth of the Navarro and travels - meanders, I dare say - all the way to Westport. Westport!!!!! How wonderful is that. Sell me this book right away! But wait! This is a "loving" guide!?! Okay wait just a second, does Ms. Mullen have a problem with my "loving". My wife has never complained, but then maybe she wouldn't. Do I need another guide to loving? Probably, couldn't hurt, maybe even help! Okay! I'm still on board. And better for it!!! Self help, here I come! But then agony to accompany my ecstasy. This is a guide for pioneers, pilgrims, painters, philosophers, poets - oh, my gosh, will it never end? I'm none of these! And I can't think of any p vocations or avocations I might be. I'm doomed to never needing this loving guide to the Mendocino coast. What is it that pioneers, pilgrims, printers, painters, philosophers and poets have that I - a humble CPA - don't have. If only I were a PCA. But then, from the ashes of despair, I'm given hope once again. I might be "..."! Yes! That's it! I qualify for ... status. Or do I? Confusion, angst, gnawing apprehension, and suspense this ... . Am I ..., or am I not .... . Drat Barbara Dorr Mullen! How am I to know? But wait - a wonderful conclusion - others who cherish this edge of the world are included! I could cherish this edge of the world. Who couldn't, who wouldn't? Certainly pioneers, pilgrims, painters, philosophers, poets, and even ...s cherish the Mendocino coast and are now in for a guide to loving. Sign me up! I can and will cherish the Mendocino Coast - whether it is the portion at the mouth of the Navarro, Westport, or anything in between. And I will be a better lover for it, because I now have this guide to loving along the Mendocino coast! Five Stars! And I'm only on the title! |
