5.0 out of 5 stars Works Perfectly With The Canon HF 10 Camcorder!
The Mennon DV-s 37 screws perfectly in place for the Canon Vixia HF 10 Camcorder. Great addition to camcorder set-up. The len hood doesn't get in the shot either. Its perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Time to get with the 16x9 format people.
I've been looking for a lens hood to fit my Sony CX550V and similar types to this one are all I can find. The new HD Camcorders use a 16X9 aspect ratio and all the lens hoods I can find are 4X3 so the sides show up when you zoom all the way out. I've been looking for a lens hood to fit my Sony CX550V and similar types to this one are all I can find. The new HD Camcorders use a 16X9 aspect ratio and all the lens hoods I can find are 4X3 so the sides show up when you zoom all the way out. If they just took the sides out to fit the aspect ratio of HD video all would be well. Hoods can make a major improvement by keepng out of frame light from hitting the lens, can someone please just start making them in the proper aspect ratio? Seriously, it's not rocket science. The quality of this piece is fine, the locking ring allows you to tighten it square to the frame. Guess I'll be grinding the sides back so they don't show up until some manufacturer wakes up and decides to build HD aspect ratio hoods for these new HD camcorders. Sony used to include accessories like this with the high end consumer models, now they apparently don't even want to bother making them. Very frustrating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect hood for my Canon HF-100 video camera, September 24, 2008

This review is from: Mennon DV-s 37 Screw Mount 37mm Digital Video Camcorder Lens Hood with White Balance and Regular Caps, Black (Electronics)
I bought this inexpensive hood as an accessory for my Canon HF-100 video camera. If Canon made it, it would have cost $50 at least. I wanted something to reduce the glare when filming outdoors, and provide some extra protection for the lens area. The hood is not visible at the widest angle of my standard lens, but I don't know if that's still true for those of you who bought the add-on wide angle lens. It does obstruct the video light (which is harsh and too bright anyway). Nothing really lost there.

It was very easy to attach to the threads on the front of the camera... it has a rotating disc that can be tightened without rotating the whole hood. This makes it easy to keep the hood perfectly horizontal, with the written text on the hood in your preferred orientation (top or bottom). In terms of size, I think this is a perfect complement to my little camera. Together with my external mic (Canon DM-100) it looks like I have a miniature professional video camera. Wait... I do!

2.0 out of 5 stars Vignetting is visible, February 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mennon DV-s 37 Screw Mount 37mm Digital Video Camcorder Lens Hood with White Balance and Regular Caps, Black (Electronics)
I got this for my Canon VIXIA HF-M31.

I tried this lens hood out today, and I am disappointed. Vignetting wasn't visible on the LCD screen, but when I played video back on a TV or uploaded the videos, vignetting was HIGHLY visible and extremely annoying. If this hood was just a little wider and taller, it would be a great deal. This problem worsens even more if you always run a filter on your setup, which I do. It almost looks like you have a wide angle lens on. You can actually see the vignetting on the LCD screen as well.

I tried sanding down the edges. I probably shaved off a couple millimeters, and the edges were still popping up into my picture. I will probably attempt to sand off more until the hood does not come into the picture at all. I might as well try to make it work since I paid for it and already altered it.

In conclusion, the lens hood COULD be a great purchase. At such a low price, it does what it's supposed to do. However, vignetting is a huge problem. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you plan on shaving the edges down.

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as its going to get., September 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mennon DV-s 37 Screw Mount 37mm Digital Video Camcorder Lens Hood with White Balance and Regular Caps, Black (Electronics)
i used this hood with a uv lens as well and when zoomed all the way out on my canon HF M-31 you can see the hook in frame int he corners. its worse with image stabilization off.
turning IS on and zooming in just a tad will remedy this.

the build quality is good, but the lock nut could be a bit more thin, there wasn't much threading attaching the hood to the camera.
The lens cap is difficult to put on. and might even lead to you unmounted the hood from the camera, thus stripping the threading.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT HOOD, November 18, 2009

This review is from: Mennon DV-s 37 Screw Mount 37mm Digital Video Camcorder Lens Hood with White Balance and Regular Caps, Black (Electronics)
Plain and simple... this has proven to be a great hood for my Canon Vixia HG20. The main reason to use a hood of course is to prevent picture anomalies from light glancing the lens or filters at angles which can reasonably be prevented by a hood. The size and design of this hood are just right for almost any usual use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Crap. Find something else, December 26, 2011

The item arrived with no White Balance cap (I didn't really need it, but it was in the product description). Worse, the hood is too small, and cuts off a large portion of either side of your video frame on the left and right sides. Find a larger hood, I'm going to.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not usefull in a Sony HDR CX 550, December 10, 2011

The hood is visible in the frame on both sides in wide zoom, when attached in the camera. I didn't receive the white cover.
If you have a Sony camcorder, don't buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I didn't get all that I paid for., October 6, 2011

This review is from: Mennon DV-s 37 Screw Mount 37mm Digital Video Camcorder Lens Hood with White Balance and Regular Caps, Black (Electronics)
I recently began filming football games for my high school and for my brother's Pop Warner level team. I make DVD's so the all the lens glare made my films look tacky. I looked into lots of different lens hoods for my Sony Handycam HDR-XR150 (I also picked up an adapter ring so this product would fit the cam). I decided on this one because I realized when I film games all day the light changes and that I needed to adjust the white balance a lot, I spent an extra few bucks to get this one because it advertised a white balance cap. My product shipped with only the black cap. I would love to give this product 5 stars because it works perfectly but it's just simply not what I paid for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for Sony HDR-XR160, September 19, 2011

Nice unit but not for the wide angle lens that the Sony HDR-XR160 is equipped with. When attached to my camera, and the zoom at the full wide setting, the hood is visible in the frame on both sides. It also did not have the white cover in my package but that might have just been a packaging issue.
