This is a piece of plastic from China which should cost no more than $3; it is somewhat flexible and not ABS. However, if you need it, it is essential. The screw threads are continuous, which makes for easy threading. And it works with the 35mm. equiv. wide angle of the Panasonic HS700k camcorder without vignetting IF you do not have a UV filter also inserted behind it. With a UV filter [we have a B+K 46mm.] then there is vignetting at the sides when fully wide angle. When going to, say, 42mm. equivalent, then this vignetting disappears when used with a filter. Also, the inside - while black - is sort of shiny and reflective. May have to overspray with UltraFlatBlack paint to get it to do its job. At this price, it should have been factory sandblasted to a perfectly non-reflective, matte black finish. Nope, just standard molding. No case, just a thin cardboard box. Again, a $3 item as it is.

product was as described. It works very well. The only thing i can see is that i have a wide angle camcorder and it intrudes on the sides. It darkens the outer edges.

I bought 46mm and 37mm versions of these soft pastic hoods for a Panasonic micro 4/3s 20mm ad 45mm lens. I bought them to keep water off the lens in light rain. They work fine for that. But you can't tighten the locking ring because of the way the lens focuses. That's not the lens hoods' maker' fault. Only slight beef is that there's no way attach cap string to the hood. An eyelet would be very helpful.

This item fits the 46mm filter size on the Panasonic TM-700, however at full wide angle the edges of the hood are visible. Also the pictured white balance cap was not included in my package.

The Mennon DV-s crew mount video lens hood is a clever and inexpensive way to place a rectangular video hood on many camcorders; they can be purchased in different sizes to match more than one camera lens size. But when I ordered mine, the description said it came with both a black cap and a white balance cap. It arrived with only the black cap. Amazon made a cash adjustment to my bill (thank you) when I brought this to their attention. Also, depending on your camcorder design, the tightening ring of the hood may constrict movement of a lens focusing ring; I fixed this by installing a UV filter on the lens first to offset the lens hood's tightening ring, and all is well. (Except now, with the filter putting the lens hood farther forward, at extreme wide angle a ghost of the hood appears in the left and right edges of my camcorder's viewfinder -- I haven't verified if this shows on the visible video image on a TV monitor, and it is not a show-stopper for me.) So I remain happy that I purchased the hood, after making some minor adjustments.

The hood is plastic made in China and shouldn't cost more than 3$, but if you want to pimp your camcorder and protect it from sunshine, lens broke etc. it's a best choice. It have no case, but have white cap for regulate white balance. Panasonic HDC-TM900K doesn't need cap and the hood black cap I saved in the box and I am using white cap. good thing. You may not think about material quality. Plastic is good material for it. It is not toy, bottle, etc. that needs quality for health. You may not buy junk toy for your son or daughter, that is horrible for their health or plastic bottle for your family. It's a only camera lens hood. I liked it and buy again for my another 3CCD camera

Used for the Canon Vixia HF M300. The plastic is a bit cheap and flimsy and the threading is very small so you have to make sure not to put it on wrong or I am afraid you would strip the threading very easy due to the cheap sort of soft plastic. There is a tightening ring on the hood so you can screw it on, adjust position then tighten it down. I did not realize this at first and it sort of confused me, just wanted to share that tip. But it works and I have not noticed any sort of cropping. I have not tested it in the sun, but I can't imagine it would not work since my camera has no lense hood at all.

It never hurts to reduce flare. That's what this lens hood does. But a screw-on isn't quite as handy as a dedicated snap-on hood that you get with many top lenses. However, that wasn't an option for my new Panasonic 600k HD videocam, so this filled the bill and gives it some resistance to degradation of the image by flare and also gives the lens some protection in case of being dropped, banged, or rained-on. Cheap protection. Protect your stuff!

Definitely worth the price. No 5 stars because on my panasonic tm700, the tightener presses up against focus ring so I can't tighten it all the way. But overall a great product. Makes my camera look professional
