About the Author

Linda Seccaspina was born in the small rural town of Cowansville, Quebec. Defying her late father's wishes that she join the Canadian army, Linda left town by the seat of her pants and became a fashion designer. After realizing her designs scared most manufacturers, she opened her own store called Flash Cadilac in Ottawa in 1974 and created general retail havoc on Rideau Street until 1997. Seccaspina's second store, Savannah Devilles, will always remain as a light in her heart because of those young customers who let her know that she was making a difference in their lives. Linda has two sons, two daughters in law, and two of the cutest canine grandbabies you ever did see. She blogs on Zoomers Canada and worshiped Nora Ephron.

More About the Author

Linda Seccaspina was born about the same time as the wheel was invented and the first time she realized she could tell a tale was when she got caught passing her smutty stories around in Grade 7. After she wrote her own obituary in 2010 when Derek "Wheels" Wheeler from Degrassi Jr. High died, people told her she should think about a career in writing obituaries.

Before she laid her fingers to a keyboard, Linda owned the eclectic store Flash Cadillac in Ottawa. The Ottawa Citizen newspaper labeled her "The Maiden of Death" even though they had no clue why and she has had to deal with the rumours for years.

Linda has published five books and blogs here and there and on Bubblews and Open Salon. She has been called the most stubborn woman in Lanark County and has requested her ashes to be distributed in any Casino parking lot as close to any Wheel of Fortune machine as you can get. But since she published her obituary, most people assume she's already dead.

Linda writes for Lanark county's arts and entertainment newspaper TheHumm and for Florida's own Screamin Mama's magazine.

New books from Linda soon:

The Titled Kilt- Vintage Whispers from Carleton Place (March)
"Flash-backs" of Ottawa's Little Miss Flash Cadilac (summer 2015)

I just finished reading Linda Seccaspina's book,"Menopausal Women Of The Corn," and found it be as delightful as the author. Linda writes from her beautiful heart, something we have all known for a long time. It is funny, introspective and at times soulful enough to bring you to tears.
I'm so glad I read this book. I was able to learn a little bit more about my friend, my soul sister and kindred spirit.
Thank you Linda, for all your cyber hugs. We couldn't live without them.

"Menopausal Women of the Corn" is a delightful look into the mind and life of the interesting, warm-hearted and successful Linda Seccaspina. Musing on pop culture, reflecting on death and loss, and chatting about the little everyday things that connect us all, Ms. Seccaspina is able to write about anything with smarts and sass. This is an entertaining read that also I felt to be uplifting. When I finished this book, I thought, "Man, life is hard and weird and full....what an adventure." Let the adventure continue!

If you are a woman, know a woman, are married to a woman, have one as a parent, or have considered gender reassignment to become a woman, Menopausal Women from the Corn is a book is for you. Linda's sly wit and insight into not just the menopausal force field, she packs her book with stories of life and wisdom as only a woman of a certain age can recall. Or sort of recall. This book has something for everyone, Vagina Whispers, Simpson Sears, PMS, body odor, Herman's Hermits, out-houses, facial hair, and her favourite recipes; most of which may result in Type II Diabetes and/or clogged arteries.

Linda does not wallow in melancholy as a woman of a certain age might do when realizing that youth is something from a past decade; to quote Leonard Cohen who once told her, "My dear, the years have been kind to you."

If you grew up in the `60s, `70s, `80s, `90s, or 2000s, Linda delivers laugh-out-loud stories that take you down memory lane or just make you wish you were there with her during her escapades known as her life. So heat up a dish Chicken in the Van, sit down and savor this book.

Beginning with a stunning cover designed by Diana Ani Stokely of grafixtogo.com, romping through the written words of Linda Seccaspina is pure joy. It is the kind of book which gives you a look inside of someone's life, feelings, situations, experiences and joie de vivre. It is an opportunity to know a life and how it teaches on many levels and makes the whole person. Linda expresses so much in these pages that you feel like you know her personally. In all our lives we need a Linda, the person who says so much and in such a fun and meaningful way. This book is a great gift for a friend's birthday, one of those "over the hill" events which seem to start earlier every year...I stopped counting. It is also a nostalgic read as through its pages you see the earmarks of her youth, what we all might have experienced in the pop culture of the 60's and beyond. I think there will much more from Linda Seccaspina in the future, we are just going to have to wait! Where does the line form?

Blogging guru Linda Seccaspina makes her book debut with this wonderful collection of many of her best posts. Linda writes with a distinctive ease that makes the book hard to put down. Linda can write about anything, from the gastric effects of Celiac Disease, to being an out of control girl in the presence of Paul McCartney in the 60's, and it all brings a smile and is done with a finely sharpened wit. Linda is uniquely Linda, yet there's always something everyone can relate to in these writings, which isn't always the easiest thing to achieve. By the books end, you feel like you've found a lifelong friend- a friend with a big heart and a generous spirit.

The title, "Menopausal Woman from the Corn," says it all - a homage to Stephen King combined with the impact of menopause...but it's also a riot of laughter combined with "wow, someone finally gets it!" There's LOL stories the author tells of her childhood, (and you thought your family was weird!)along with adolescent experiences most of us could only dream about. The passage of time gives her a perspective that amounts to lessons learned from all the people she's met along the way. You will find yourself hooked on her unique perspective - not to mention PMS Hot Flash Fudge. Yes, recipes are included!

I have followed Linda's blogs on Open Salon and Zoomers for several years now. This book presents a deeper view of the woman behind the blogs. Her writing is fun and yet touches the heart of her readers. In fact, I have shared many of her blogs with both my facebook and twitter friends who love them as well. Whenever I read her work I learn something about what it is like to be a person who has risen above a difficult youth, suffered many of the same kinds of life experiences I have and is fearless in writing about it. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone (not just menopausal women).
