Probably the BEST book about Menopause I have read!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Menopause Survival Guide: Surviving the Change of Life (Paperback)
Of all the menopause books out there, this is the easiest to read. The medical facts are laid out, plain and simple. Every topic is discussed factually but in a very down-to-earth way, and I do mean EVERY topic. Donna Rogers left no stone unturned. And she has such common sense ways to deal with hot flashes, lost memory and everything else that "changes" during menopause. I think it was a very good idea to have chapters for husbands and children, too, because, as the author says, they go through menopause right along with women. The Top Ten Reasons were fun. And the glossary has been very helpful. This book isn't fluffy or silly, and it isn't dry and boring. It's JUST RIGHT!

A Must For Every Menopausal Woman,
By Casey (St. Louis) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Menopause Survival Guide: Surviving the Change of Life (Paperback)
I had the good fortune to meet Mrs. Rogers at a woman's show in St. Louis in February 2003 at which time I purchased her book. The reason the information in the book is so helpful is because Mrs. Rogers explains menopause in such a woman to woman way. Golly, I didn't even know the difference between perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause let alone all the symptoms that I have (and will) experience. I was surprised in the review by razzjones who said it didn't answer any of her questions. She must not have read this book because it answered ALL my questions and then some. This is a fantastic guidebook that I'm using now, and that I'll refer to in the future.

Midlife Perils,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Menopause Survival Guide: Surviving the Change of Life (Paperback)
This book takes you through the stages of life, from early teens to grandparenthood. I found the book to be informative, humorous, and obviously written by someone who has lived to tell about it. I highly recommend this book as a survival guide for those approaching midlife or who loves someone who is.

No one book was able to satisfy my research needs, and I ended up writing a two page memo that combined description with prescription in drawing out the best information across all three books (copy posted to OSS.Net Library under Reference). I deeply regret that I did know look into this ten years ago--both men and women need to understand this stuff before they hit 40. A great deal of emotional misunderstanding could be avoiding if *both* men and women absorbed this knowledge early on. Of the three books, this is the shortest, the easiest to read, and the simplist. The other two books that I recommend are Colette Bouchez, "Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause" (2005, the most time-consuming to read, but also the most up to date with some real gems of knowledge), and "Menopause for Dummies" which falls between the two books in utility.

Great Reference Guide,

I'm 49 & I sweat all the time. No matter where I go or what I do, I'm hot. Everybody keeps telling me, it's just me. This books explains why I'm hot & that it's normal. The author explains what I'm going through in simple, easy to understand words. I received this book as a gift. The author goes to her church. From one Christian to another, I ordered a copy for one of my friends just entering menopause. It will help her like it has me. Very informative with a great touch of warmth from one woman to another. Thanks!

A good overview,
By
This review is from: The Menopause Survival Guide: Surviving the Change of Life (Paperback)
Rogers' book is a good overview of of many women's health issues, from puberty to old age, with clear explanations of the many physical changes women experience through life. Rogers provides especially good medical explanations for the common menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, memory difficulties, and dry skin, as well as warnings about more serious issues like osteoporosis. CAUTION: this book was published in 2002 and is not current on the latest studies on hormone replacement therapy, which have caused many women to forgo HRT. One thing really bugged me about this book: Rogers has a chapter called the "Weird Words Zone" in which she rails against medical terminology and asks why it can't be simpler. It's as if she feels we women aren't up to the task of dealing with technical medical language. Ironically, her clear explanations (with phonetic pronunciations) of the language is one of the strong points of the book. But give us a little credit--we can master this as well as any male physician can!

Best Book I've Found On The Subject Of Menopause,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Menopause Survival Guide: Surviving the Change of Life (Paperback)
The author's research on menopause was very extensive;though there are many medical terms throughout the book, she explained each and made it so easy to read. After being on hormones for five years, I stopped "cold turkey". Having this book to refer to has given me peace of mind, assuring myself that I am "normal".
