5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautifully Illustrated Brilliantly Humorous Book
If you are going through Menopause, if you know anyone who's is also going through it or going into it and/or if you have cats, you must buy this book. This is one of the most hilarious and most beautifully illustrated books I've ever seen/read. A friend bought it for me shortly after my hysterectomy. I wasn't supposed to go into Menopause. 3.0 out of 5 stars Amusing... but not much
Wish I'd listed to "A Class Act". I was probably expecting too much but this book was a big let-down. It's not particularly funny. And I, too, didn't care for some of the lines passed off as humor. I didn't care for the of drawing style either. It's not a total cat-astrophe but it may be the first book I actually sell.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautifully Illustrated Brilliantly Humorous Book, April 15, 1998

I was 44 and my GYN carefully left my ovaries in. They immediately conked out when the rest of the equipment was gone -- I guess they got lonely or something. So suddenly I was Menopausal in a major way and completely unprepared for the myriad symptoms. The format of the book is simple but perfect. One page illustrates a Symptom of Menopause with a drawing of a suffering Feline. The next page is a a Kitty showing off the Solution. I have 4 cats: Thelma, Louse, Bobby Seale the Black Panther and Moll Flanders the homeless tramp who is a big martyr and insists on living outside even though she is welcome inside. My cats are my best friends. Especially Thelma, the Love Kitty, who is a Tortie Point and thinks she is either a dog or a person. As I said earlier, the drawings are wondrous and they complement Ms. Sacks brilliant words beyond expectation. I'm into shoes. So my favorite drawing in the book will always be the one that depicts the answer to the "Symptom: Loss of Height". "Solution: Buy New Shoes" shows a proud kitty strutting her stuff in a pair of red platforms complete with wings. It really doesn't get much better than that in life. A cat with attitude in platform shoes is pretty darn cool. And strangely comforting when you feel like you're losing your mind or having a hot flash.

This is the perfect handbook for the Premarin crowd, their mates and family. You don't need to be a cat person for this book to be very funny. I laughed until I cried and I think it shall be my favorite present for my friends.

I saw this book in the waiting room at my doctor's office. It's a riot! And full of funny, practical advice as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A much needed laugh, August 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Menopaws: The Silent Meow (Paperback)
I am a Cat lover so I was immediatly attracted to this book by the illustrations. I bought the first copy for my sister who is going through early menopause. She loved it ...I think it was the first time she was able to laugh at some of the things she was feeling. It's very well written with a great sense of humor ! I have since given this book to several friends. A great gift for someone in need of a smile !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Party Gift, June 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Menopaws: The Silent Meow (Paperback)
I bought this book a few years ago and thought it was hysterical then. Since then I continue to buy more books for friends and family because everyone needs a good laugh when they are going through "the change." This year I gave a dozen "Menopaws, The Silent Meow" books to a group of women who came to a class reunion. Not only was it a great ice-breaker... but everyone agreed is was fun and thoughtful. I recommend that all the women out there consider buying this book for their next luncheon or their class reunion. It's a real hoot!!!

A Class Act! (CA United States) - See all my reviews

I noticed this book as I was browsing for information about menopause. I
purchased it thinking a good laugh would be a welcome thing! If a giggle
was had, it was solely a result of the adorable drawings. I actually winced
at a few of the comments. A definite DON'T BOTHER!
