Warm and weatherproof- some issues though
on December 14, 2010
Overall, after one day with these shoes, I am pleased overall.
First, the pros:
Warm as advertised
Weatherproof when walking through snow
5-inch boot a good in-between a loafer and an 8-inch winter pac boot that comes halfway up my calf. I don't need anything that serious for winter here in TN, just something for the occasional snows and winter football games.
Not as heavy as a full 6 or 8-inch boot
Fits true to size, even considering the footprint is WAY bigger than my normal size 10 shoes. Sole looks more like a 12. Look like clodhoppers from the outside. But the manufacturer did a good job of compensating for size when adding all the 200 gram Thinsulate. Fit was great in the length and plenty of room width-wise as well.
And the cons:
The sole out of the box is nearly completely stiff. It loosened a little after a full day, but still very stiff from the ankle down. Simply the boot doesn't flex. maybe a good thing because I've read some other shoes will crack at the rubber where they flex
Although they are lighter than a full boot, they are not the most comfortable thing to walk in. For comparison and truth, I wear Chuck Taylors most days, so I am not used to the extra weight
After walking in them, the gusseted tongue will slide around a little bit causing the leather upper part to dig into your ankle a little. I readjusted the tongue back into place and felt fine
