Not up to snuff, March 22, 2011
This review is from: Mens Soleus 10K Chronograph 30 lap Large (Apparel)
I got this watch because the Timex equivalent was out of stock. The feature set is similar, but the practical application of these features is more annoying than it is useful.
The good stuff: It is very waterproof, sturdy (so far), and accurate.
<<Update Sept 2011: The watch _was_ very waterproof. My last lake swim fogged up the glass. I assume that my subsequent lake swims will kill this watch. It's not so waterproof anymore. It did survive a dozen pool and ocean swims before this happened, and a hundred or more showers.>>
It looks good too, the yellow colors match your livestrong bracelet.
It's got a cool power save function that turns off the screen at intervals you dictate. I love that.
It allows you to switch time zones, or display two zones, with a single button. I also love that function in the Timex.
The band is comfortable, the design is breathable and more adjustable than the comparable Ironman.
The bad stuff:
- The start/lap button is on the side. That front button has only a 'view' function in chronograph mode. Maybe Timex has a patent on a front-mounted lap button... But it's much harder to mark off your miles or laps on this Soleus 10k.
- That front button is small and hard to press anyway.
- The hourly chime turns on with a single press of a side button. Every time I grab the handlebars, my bike glove presses a side button, and the hourly chime turns on or off again. This is a function whose command should be hidden deep in the button menu tree.
- In this model, the 10k, there is no workout memory. You can only recall the last run, and you have to overwrite it for the next run. This watch should be $10 to $20 cheaper in the absence of this function.
- There is no "timer". There is a workout timer, that chimes at intervals, but it cycles thru the intervals continuously. I time my steaks on the grill, and it takes several button pushes to reset and start over, unlike the Timex. If you are someone who uses an interval timer for your workouts, then please move this bullet point into the "good" column. It's something Timex doesn't have (though it is laborious to program). But then still, there's no out&out timer function on the Soleus 10k.
Summary:
The watch is easier to wear than an Ironman, even the 'sleek'.
But sub-par button placement, and lack of a useful timer are really annoying.
The lack of any workout memory puts this in the wrong price point.
You would pay less for a better watch if you got the Ironman.

Not impressed with the quality of the watch, January 25, 2011
I purchased this watch for my husband about 6 months ago. He loved the style and functionality of the watch, but a few months after owning it, the time stopped working! We called to see if it was covered by a warranty, and even though they said it was, they charged us $13 to "ship" the watch back (even though it only cost us $2 to send the watch to them). It took them over 2 weeks to fix it, so in my opinion, the watch was definitely not worth it. I'm hoping it was just a glitch and it won't break down again, but I have my doubts.

Pretty decent, March 8, 2011
This review is from: Mens Soleus 10K Chronograph 30 lap Large (Apparel)
I bought this almost a year ago, it's held up pretty well considering what I've put it through. I'd never heard of this brand but I liked the looks so I decided to go with it. Turns out it's a very nice looking watch, pretty average sized (though certainly larger than a lot of timex watches, I think it looks better too). My only complaints are the following: the glass has been looking a little strange around the edges, I don't know what it is but it might be breaking/cracking a little (I hit this watch on corners, doors, etc. all the time, so go figure). It's still water resistant enough that no water vapor has penetrated, so no biggie. The only other complaint (and this is minor) is that the wristband is designed with a bunch of little nooks and crannies. These look cool, but they cake with salt any time you sweat on them, and they can be annoying to clean out and if you don't they look greyish. Again, pretty mild, but worth considering if you're looking for a sports watch.
Other than these issues, the watch has been great, it has a large, easy to read display and very extensive chronograph features, and also has the advantage of being different; it's not a timex, casio, etc.
