More About the Author

As a professional magician and public speaker for more than 30 years, Michael Varma understands the need for clear and engaging communication. As a writer, he has transferred that understanding to the printed page authoring Tasteful Toasts, a useful reference for anyone wanted to give, well, a tasteful toast. Varma has also developed and marketed several educational games, and published Mental Blocks, a series of successful puzzle books. Key businesses and educational institutions have purchased these products, including MENSA, Gateway Educational materials, Proctor & Gamble, and Toastmasters International. With interests in both non-fiction and fiction, he recently penned his first mystery novel titled Death by Magic.

In his business life, Varma is an award-winning instructor and corporate trainer who delights in translating dry, complex business communication into interesting and effective speeches and articles for publications. His work has appeared in several anthologies and regularly contributes how-to service pieces to the local and national magazines and newsletters.

While Varma has written on a number of topics over the years, his passion remains with the art of presentation. He uses his practical experience as an entertainer and facilitator to coach clients on their presentation skills. He helps magicians polish their banter, sommeliers present to wine enthusiasts, Toastmasters improve their public speaking skills, and many others. With Tasteful Toasts, Varma teaches us all how to "say the magic words."

Varma lives in Southern California where he leads a weekly writers' group. He performs magic frequently at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Format: Perfect Paperback
These puzzles are way too much fun! Forget Sudoku or those other puzzle books; Mental Blocks are my new favorite to grab and go - anywhere! They're the perfect pocket size for travel (don't get on a plane without them) yet easy to grab on the way to your favorite reading chair at home. Remember those old team-building word puzzles everyone does at work? (The word "under" below the word "stand" = "understand"?) Varma has taken that idea to a new level of fun and added tons more fun, categorizing the puzzles into popular themes (movies, sports, famous faces) and adding a twist of difficulty to keep your brain and pencil busy. My vote: One of each, please!
