Number 1 candidate for lemon of the year, September 18, 1997
This review is from: The Mental Health Technology Bible (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
As computer buffs will know, the term 'bible' is used to indicate that a given book is, in someone's opinion, 'the' definitive text on the subject in question. So why on earth does this book have the word 'bible' in its title.
According to the authors, a psychology professor and a clinical psychologist from waaaay out west, the following items are 'accurate', 'authoritative' and 'up-to-date':
- The only company making microprocessors is Intel
- A network server is also known as a 'local area network' or LAN
- The most reliable network servers are made by Novell
- And the individual programs within packages such as MS Office and Lotus SmartSuite don't have as many features/functions as standalone applications
No, I'm really not kidding, these are just a few of the many techno-bloopers that have aleady lead to the book being taken out of circulation in the UK, and give it an unassailable position as computer publishings' Lemon of the Year.
Allegedly written for anyone from total novice to experienced user this book demonstrates the authors' conspicuous lack of computing knowledge (all of the points above are absolutely wrong!), which is a little surprising since they claim to be experts in the area of technophobia.
What more can one say other than 'Physician, heal thyself'.
