Book Description

The Da Vinci Code meets When Harry Met Sally in this page turner, that will have wondering, "will they, won't they" until the very last tearjerking moment.

The life of dashingly handsome Matthew Charles is mental. As a young New York psychologist he spends all day heroically saving his adoring patients. Yet behind closed doors his own life is falling apart. His Jehovah’s Witness father has guilt-tripped him into marrying a nut job in their local congregation, and he see’s no way out.

This all changes the day Jennifer Gibson, a beautifully talented therapist joins his team. Instantly Matthew’s heart springs to life for the person his father calls a “worldly girl.” Yet as he attempts to leave his family’s religion, he’s ensnared in it further. Will Matthew stay a prisoner to his parent's, or will the love for Jennifer be strong enough to set him free?

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book. Well written. September 19, 2013

Humour is used to build a connection to the main character and continues as he describes the people around him. While the humour is usually subtle there are some characters (his boss is one that comes to mind) who are definitely way out there. The subject matter is serious though. It deals with how his life is controlled by his parents and the rules of his religion (Jehovah's Witness). He is a 28 year old adult who is intelligent and educated but it wasn't until he fell in love that he was able to seek professional help and take control of his life. This is an interesting and thoughtful book with a touching and uplifting ending.

Loved the story. My husband comes from a family of Jehovah's Witness'-though he was never drawn into the cult, himself-we felt the coldness from his more pious family members throughout our married life, to the point that we really no longer speak to any of his family. My one critique for the book would be that I wished for a little more chemistry between Matthew & Jennifer. While I felt it thru Matthew's prose, I never got much of who Jennifer was, and didn't feel like her character was very well represented. After reading the Acknowledgements at the end of the book, I realize this is pretty much an autobiography of Charlie Mathews life, and I want to congratulate him for having the courage to stand up for himself against incredible pressure. I really enjoyed reading your story.

This story is essentially about a dysfunctional family and one man's journey of self discovery. Give this book a try and I know you will not be disappointed.
