Dr. Rob Bell has written an excellent primer on the mental approach to golf. The book is concise, well written, but most importantly it is full of practical insights and tips to take the lessons from the book to the practice range and subsequently to the golf course. There are a number of drills, both physical and mental, that are brought out in the book and this sets this book apart from other mental game books. Dr. Rob emphasizes making your practice count by making it more stressful than actual competition and gives you exact ways to make this happen. I think any level golfer who is trying to improve their game can benefit from this book, but everyone who competes in any level of competition would be helped by the insights and lessons that are presented here.
As an aside, I have worked with Dr. Bell personally and he helped me take my game to the proverbial next level, which for me was from local club competitions to competing at the state championship level. This book reminded me of the things I've done and have yet to do to achieve my goals in golf. This is a fun book that is easy to read and provides a great deal of practical advice.

I bought this book for both my son and husband. Before they got to it though, I read it in a day. Although I play tennis, it applied to my game as well. My favorite parts were playing with "no expectations" and "controlling what I can control." I can easily apply the practice ideas in my game. Good stories make it a fun read.

Dr. Bell's book really addresses the key components on how to build mental toughness. The stories are intertwined with actual techniques from professionals and coaches. Good for all sports!

I thought Dr. Bell's book was well written not only for the "weekend golf guy" but for many other motivational social life activities. I am a high school teacher, a former cocksmen and live a very healthy lifestyle and found this book to be motivation in more than just golf. Dr. Bell grabs you in ways you never thought would be golf related. Im impressed, damn impressed with how this book relates to more than just golf. Looking forward to the next read from this guy. 2 thumbs up!

I sensed a nice balance of stories drawn from a broad range of professional athletes and coaches versus the author's own unique ideals and methods of training and competing. A great read for anyone looking to improve their golf game or build mental toughness in other areas.

Dr. Rob Bell's little gem is not just another "mental toughness" book about a sport. Anyone who loves golf and wants to make improvement in their personal game a "practice" should carry the book like a copy of "Our Daily Bread". Just as that well-known periodical provides sustenance for the spirit, "Start Strong, Finish Strong" is a golfer's devotional, filled with timeless and contemporary wisdom which coaches and sustains purpose and concentration, soothes the frazzled strokes and nerves, and reminds the golfer that he or she will live and practice to play well and better another day.

Dr. Bell's book is a practical guide to gaining and sustaining success in golf - and having fun in the process!
I read it over a weekend, and found it inspiring and realistic. Dr. Bell combines expert guidance from his professional acumen, while recommending realistic tips for impovement. The stories he interjects about men and women through history who have succeeded after beating enormous odds are inspiring. I recommend it for both golf professionals, amateurs and anyone who just wants to persist through obstacles to meet their goals! I hope he writes a subsequent book.
