I've been a Coroner fan since 1989. I remember the first time I saw Coroner on Headbangers Ball, and I was immidiately drawn to their sound. I love all of their releases, and highly recommend all of them to any fan of Speed/Death/ and Thrash Metal...If you've never heard Coroner, you're in for a real treat. The only words to really describe Coroner's sound is "unique", "dark", "fast as lightning", "very deep".... They don't sound like anybody else IMO, but they are brutal power at it's very best. They are all very talented, and perfectionist musicians. Guitarist T. Baron is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. His riffs are blazing fast, and he plays some of the most impressive soaring/flying leads I've ever heard. He is without question an axe master.... Metal Vortex is without question Coroner's finest hour. It's very polished, and very well written. There is not one single filler here either. All of the songs on Mental Vortex have a very powerful, and lasting impression. Drummer M. Marky lays down some of his very best lyrics here too. It's a dark ride through the gates of hell and back IMO. They really did some excellent work here, and it's truly a masterpiece in every way..... If I had to classify this, and compare it to another band, I couldn't really. I'll just say that it's one of the best CD's I own, and I've got 1000's...... CORONER RULES!!!!...

these guy started as celtic frost roadies i hear, they are very intense and dinamic speed/thrash band but not till now have they managed to go further than those labels but this cd takes them into their own realm of music maturity, choatic riffs but very contamed to flow brilliantly as a three piece fury of technical brutallity, progressive talent and sheer flow of aggression.

This is what brutal was before Death Metal became prominent.Amazing composistion in the guitar work,And ther're cover of the Beatle's "I want you(She so heavy)" has to be one of the best remakes of any cover tune if not the best.I love these guys,But this is probly ther're only really good album in my oppinion.Ther're other stuff is cool,But this album sets a really high standard.

Mental vortex was the technical apex of Coroner's recording history. They started seriously broadening their horizons with the addition of samples and ambiance to lend the songs here a more diverse feel, like the intro to Conspectu Mortis and the chorus noise of Pale Sister. The playing is as always, something to listen to and learn from. The bass could have been brought up in the mix a tad, however. But the songs are pretty much all cut from the same killer cloth, with these guys packing in more riffs in a minute than typical 'nu-metal' bands packed in a whole album. I always appreciated their intellectual lyrics, which when wedded to their thrashy and juicy riff-laden music makes for crazy musical children. This is thinking man's metal at it's finest.

Heavy and fast, while maturing,

Mental Vortex was much of an album where you saw Coroner mature in their sound a bit, while retaining their characteristic chaos and heaviness. Very dark, which is independent of the heaviness. The album is mysterious and intelligent and spoke of the direction they were going in with polishing their sound. One of the finest albums of the genre, while being a group that hasn't been matched since.

The hardest Coroner album for me to find is also my personal favorite. This one has the best production, strangest lyrics, and outstanding production (although the vocals seem a bit buried in the mix. The only weak track is the cover of the Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy) which, if not great, is at least tolerable (unlike the "Purple Haze cover on Punishment For Decadence). A definite easy (and intelligent) choice for the new-to-Coroner listener.

I bot this as a "cut out" cd for 2.00. Its funny how those end up being some of your favorite cd's. A very dark/speedy/intense metal album. Its a cd that could be released today and still be very vital. I believe these guys were from Germany, had some success but broke up. You cant go wrong with any band that was on the NOISE label originally. If you like Celtic Frost, you'll love these guys.

I know I'm repeating myself, but these guys are great: they deserved more exposure and were surely better than the Met-boys (after Burton passed- RIP) -great arrangements and songwriting and terrific guitar work!!

technically the most intense music to come from the swiss ever and they're not neutral but dominantly heavy.the guitarist would eventually resurface again in kreator in later years.this band had so much talent and drive but i think they never go enough chance to show it all.they seemed to be sort of searching for a way out of their confort zone but still brutally vicious, heavy three piece band.
