Book Description

1418005843 978-1418005849 August 3, 2006 1
This unique text provides an in-depth look at mentor-coaching to help readers plan, implement, and evaluate a successful mentor/coach-protege program. Mentor Coaching and Leadership in Early Care and Education takes the mentor/coach through the first phase of beginning a relationship with a protege, through the enabling and stabilizing process, and finally to completing the process and achieving closure. The text is aligned to educational initiatives and "Good Start, Grow Smart", and includes such topics as leadership; communication; planning; learning and understanding one's behavior, values, and learning style; and accepting and working with change. A discussion of emotional intelligence, creativity, and personal/professional growth is also included to foster knowledge of how these important topics relate to successful leadership. The text includes special features such as case studies, descriptions of real-life mentoring situations, and activities for mentor coaches and proteges to complete.

Editorial Reviews

Review

As a director of curriculum and training, I would see someone like myself using this product. I daily work with training early childhood education teachers. They are always assigned a mentor teacher, however, I feel the specifics listed in this proposal would give the mentor teacher a more detailed plan to follow.

This text is designed as a 'strategy guide' for use by preschool teachers, particularly Head Start teachers, and the more experienced teachers who mentor them. The product would serve as a concrete text linking the initiatives contained in the No Child Left Behind Act, the Good Start, Grow Smart early childhood initiative, and Head Start professional development requirements.

I like the detailed organization of the material. I like the idea of doing case studies and small group discussions for sharing. The journal assignments and hands-on approach to learning is definately a plus and will ensure that participants objectives are met.
