Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

When George Frederick Handel wrote "Joy to the World," which contains the immortal line "Let heaven and nature sing," he probably didn't mean it literally. But Meowy Christmas takes him at his word as Cheese Puff, Max, Sprocket, Binky, Clara, Cueball, Graymer, Twizzler, Petunia--and the occasional dog--meow and bark and let their animal nature sing 20 (count 'em 20!) holiday favorites. You'll be awestruck, dumbstruck, and struck yet again hearing these felines "sing" and, ah, scat their way through the usual round-up of holiday music, relying on a beat box and different arrangements, including a folkish, harmonica-driven version of the Handel hymn. You're bound to find your own favorites here (while trying to figure out how in the heck mastermind Mike Spalla pulled this off), but you're definitely bound to be roused from your comfort and joy by "What Child Is This/Hava Nagila" that trades kitty meows and doggy barks back and forth in a spirited ecumenical dance of the four-legged. The disc comes with an order form for its own line of Jingle Cats merchandise. --Martin Keller

Product Description

Seen on television ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and in newspapers, such as the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and magazines such as CATS Magazine and People Magazine. The Jingle Cats album brought cat fanciers a roaringly funny album which speaks to humans and cats! Warning: listeners have reported losing control of their cars while listening to this album. The #1 requested Christmas album for radio stations nationwide, the #1 Christmas novelty album and Tower Records #1 selling Christmas CD in 1993, and a ranking in Billboard's Top 10 Holiday Album List for 1994.

5.0 out of 5 stars People who don't like this have no sense of humor November 15, 2004
Format:Audio CD
I bought this when it first came out, played it (on tape) in the car on the way home, and nearly drove off the road. Cat lovers will think it is hysterically funny; I can't say the same for stodgy old dog lovers or (horrors) people who don't like pets. The people who don't like it should lighten up and join in the fun. The person who said it was sacrilegious ought to understand that we are all God's creatures, including fluffy little cats. Their little voices can sing sacred songs just as well as the rest of us. This is well done and represents a lot of hard work on the part of the creator, who taped and spliced and taped and spliced to end up with a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meooowww Meooowww Meooowww -- Sing Along! July 20, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I think some reviewers are missing the true beauty of this album. I've never listened to it with cats around, and I love it. Just imagine -- cats, meowing nonstop, for hours and hours (okay, only if you set your CD player on "repeat," but I digress). Not only is the cat singing hilariously absurd (I laugh every time I hear this CD), but it also has the benefit of driving people around you nuts. Try playing it at work, over and over again on your computer (I did this until my coworkers became near-homicidal and then stole my CD). Or play it in your car and sing along with the various meows at the top of your lungs (if you listen to it enough times, you'll be able to imitate each cat!). Passengers love it. Almost nothing is better for torturing/scaring others than this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meowy Christmas December 14, 2002
Format:Audio CD
The Jingle Cats are an adorable cat ensemble. I play it throughout the holidays, my cats love it.
They're always trying to figure out where the cats are. It's so funny.

The music is well orchestrated and dogs are featured on a few tracks.

Very very cute, and very original.

For those who are confused by the concept of the Jingle Cats, it's just music put together by incorporating different cat meows. There's a whole range of cat noises. From high pitched kitten meows to low growls and dog barks.

My favorite tracks are, Hava Nagila, Dance of the Reed Faries, Dance of the Sugerplum Fairies, Carol of the bells and Waltz of the Flowers.
And the music on track 4 (Up on the House Top) is particulary fun, this track also includes purring!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent work of art! June 17, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
What do you get when you cross the genius of Liberace with the beauty of Beethoven?
Answer: the most innovative and ingenuous Christmas album to ever hit the shelves. Buy this album around Christmas and play it all throughout the season. You will really impress your family members and friends as they will laugh hysterically and want to come over to hear it often.
Imagine...over an hour of shrill cat meows set to your favorite Christmas-time keyboard renditions! Meows of all caliber..some high, some low but all right on key and sounding very realistic.
Buy this album today...it's a masterpiece

5.0 out of 5 stars My Cats Love Jingle Cats November 26, 2002
A Kid's Review
Format:Audio CD
This is my all time favorite Christmas CD, my two cats Snookums and Sprinkles love it too. Every Christmas I bring out this album and just sit by the tree listening to it while my cats dance next to the speakers. It is really funny. All of the songs on it are really, really good, but my favorite one is White Christmas. My cats like Deck the Halls the best. They always sing along with it. I think it would be neat if my cats could be on the next CD, they have great voices and would be really friendly to Cheesepuff and all the other cats. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes cats.

5.0 out of 5 stars What were you expecting? January 13, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I agree with several opinions that a few of the reviewers here are sorely lacking any sense of humor. Did they expect to hear the equivalents of Placido Domingo and Maria Callas accompanied by the Boston Symphany on this CD? For goodness sakes, this album is supposed to be fun. It's not intended to be high brow art for pseudo-intellectuals who cannot bring themselves to appreciate the anarchic zaniness of hearing a cat chorale sing along to classical pieces such as "Ode to Joy" or "Waltz of the Flowers". Lighten up!

5.0 out of 5 stars My cats hate me now
This album is an awesome gift of joy for the house, but even more, it's fun to play and watch the cats go looking for these mystery cats that seem to be hidden in my speakers.
