For what it is, it is great, November 16, 2011
This review is from: Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Race Cars 1934 - 1955 (Hardcover)
If you want a study of the exterior modifications/evolution of the various racing Silver Arrows, this book is what you want. Excellent line drawings depict nearly every variation, and the text details them all. The text also covers the mechanical developments that went on under the skin of these racers, although not in as much detail as you will find elsewhere.
The only drawback I would note is that besides the photographs (which are not terribly numerous) there are few non-side or front images of the cars. This limits the reader's ability to really tell what the racers looked like "in life."
If you already have a book covering the Silver Arrow's racing history or engineering (like Karl Ludvigsen's) this volume would be a great addition.
If you just love cars and are curious about the ones covered by this book; it will be a good buy if you can find it for $30-ish, at current prices you need to be a true aficionado.
Short review on this one because the Amazon publisher's blurb really does a good job of describing what you'll be getting.
