This review is from: Mercedes Coupes, Sedans, and Wagons, 1974-84 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (Paperback)
This book should be called the "Totally Useless Series". BelowI describe a realworld example of the use of this book and how it fails to live up to its stated purpose. I just recently purchased this manual to work on a 1980 300D that I purchased this book sight unseen because repair manuals are So - how'd it play out? The instructions for removing the starter were (paraphrased, Here's what the instructions neglected to mention since they I ended up removing the battery, battery tray (4 bolts, not Let me re-iterate, the Chilton's manual had no model specific Other areas where the manual was sadly lacking (either because On the whole, I feel that too much of this book is wasted on Chilton's manuals used to be the car "bible", but sadly this I'm buying the Haynes manual (though I hear that Chilton's

OK if you don't need to know anything in depth.,

It doesn't even mention rear wheel bearings. Chilton editors/mechanics/engineers, am I wrong? Is it really there and I just missed it?

Don't get your hopes up,

This book is not all that bad. This is better than the Haynes manual any day. Its problem is that it is too vague. The only things it covers are the basic mechanical aspects. If you are having problems with say the vacuum system for the door locks on a 79 450sl, there is nothing. They lead you to believe that they have complete vacuum diagrams. In fact, most of the vacuum system is NOT covered.

Very General Book - Few Specifics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mercedes Coupes, Sedans, and Wagons, 1974-84 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (Paperback)
AsI suspected whenI bought this book, it covers too many models and is far too thin on the ground. It is little better than a general maintenance book. In contrast to the Robert Bentley manuals which are 5 star+, I found this book to be of almost no practical value.

How to get good ideas to repair your Mercedes,

Im driving a Mercedes 280SE 1979, and that kind of book gives me ideas and help to repair it.
I think its very intresting to get information for maintenance and reparations; nobody is better to repair your own car as your selve! (Sorry, my English is terrible!) Best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I bought the manual thinking it will assit me with my repairs on my Mercedes Diesels but I find the manual very general. Try to find out something about the Vacuum door lock system....Nothing or what the kick down Transmission solenoid does or located etc. NG.
Not pleased with this product at all, there is probably another manual that is more specific and helpful.

Bought the Chilton Book as a new owner of a 1978 450SL in need of much repair. Great book for a good mechanic that takes their time to do their work according to original specs.
