Book Description

March 18, 2009
A covert and powerful organization ... a missing arms shipment .... and a conspiracy to launch an attack on an American city. Ex-CSIS agent turned security consultant Jack Dyson relentlessly pursues the ghosts from his past. His journey begins on a snow-covered country road in Southwestern Ontario and propels him into the gray halls of the Kremlin fourteen years later. Revenge is a cold master until Kate Spencer re-enters his life. She is not only brilliant and successful but also just as beautiful as he remembers. At their first chance encounter, she was married and he was angry at the world in general. Not much has happened in his life since then. That all changes in the summer of 2001. Middle Eastern terrorists, a powerful organization of corporate predators, and a cell of disenchanted former KGB operatives all conspire to destabilize the Western world for their own selfish reasons. Jack gets a rare second chance with the woman of his dreams only to be swept back into the dark world of arms smuggling and political intrigue. An unlikely cast of characters, including the Special Commissioner of the RCMP and the Director of the CIA, find themselves allied with the unpredictable and resourceful Mr. Dyson. It's a race against time and the clock is ticking.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This is my first published work.  My background in banking and corporate finance spans more than 35 years. During that time, I learned how wealth is accumulated, leveraged and hidden through complex mechanisms and treaties while governments abdicate responsibility in the name of capitalism.

Merchants of Terror and the sequel, Hard Target (yet to be published), are works of fiction but offer a chilling story of how American intelligence agencies and highly placed government officials failed to protect their nation when it counted the most. --This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.

More About the Author

Richard Allen is a pen-name. The writer lives in a small community on Canada's West Coast and loves his privacy as much as his golf. A former banker, private pilot, amateur sports-car driver and father of three boys, he is used to risk-taking. He loves reading as much as writing, a strength that allows years of research to be sprinkled throughout his novels. These crumbs of knowledge allows the reader to share in the moment and provides a sense of "being there".

His first book, "Merchants of Terror", enjoys a diverse audience in North America and Europe. "Hard Target", is the title of his next creative project to be followed by "The Crossbow Conspiracy".

5.0 out of 5 stars Book review, May 17, 2009
This review is from: Merchants Of Terror (Paperback)
This story opens with Jack Dyson foiling an airline hijacking over Russia after which you are parachuted to the Ukraine. You land in the midst of a huge arms theft destined for detonation somewhere off the eastern shores of the U.S. This is great techno-thriller and I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone. Jack Dyson is a likable hero whose actions speak louder than words. The novel has a complex and intelligent plot with just enough technical detail to satisfy the technocrats, but not detract from the story. There's a depth to this story that could give many mainstream conspiracy novels a run for their money. Well researched and it reminded me of Tom Clancy, but it's faster paced and I liked the sprinkling of humor used to release some of the tension. I can't wait for the second installment of this trilogy.
