What a great value and so easy to read! I bought the mayo clinic guide and was disappointed with how obtuse the medical explanations were.
I'm no doctor! I just want to know what my kids are sick with!
So I returned it and decided to go with the new Merck Manual.
In addition to a great price, it was actually easy to read. I won't make that mistake twice, that's for sure.

I can't recommend this Health Book enough, especially to parents anxious about their kids health.

Merck's Home Health Handbook is written in everyday easy-to-understand language and provides information on health care for children and adults.
It covers all types of illnesses,explains the symptoms,treatments and prevention.
Great value - highly recommended.

I have been looking for a Home health guide for a while now. I have been using the Mayo Clinic one and have found it to be very difficult to find the information that I am looking for and to understand it as well. So I was very pleased when I came across the Merck manual. It is very easy to understand and has a wealth of information.

After I purchased my copy here, amazon corrected the ISBN number originally posted on the amazon site, & it now matches the book I received. Not as well-illustrated or easy to understand as the "American College Physicians Complete Home Medical Guide", but is more complete & has twice as many pages. Has general color illustrations of body systems, but disease illustrations are small & in B&W. Unlike the American College book, there are no photographs here. On the positive side, the discussion of each disease is more thorough here, & each disease contains sections on "Symptoms", "Diagnosis", & "Treatment." I can't vouch for the accuracy of either book, but this book generally seems to have more advanced & detailed discussions, while the American College book is easier for the layman to comprehend. Both are useful.

The book is well organized and very easy to read. Explains things in layman's terms and is a great value. Over 2500 pages, which is more comprehensive then other options (and less expensive.)

This the largest coverage of medical conditions that I have seen. I had heard of it for several years , but was advised recently to get it for emergencies as well as any changes due to age. It is a valuable resource which I recommend .

This new version of the Merck Medical Manual is great.Answers more medical question then the old version. When you get older you have more question.

I ordered this book for our youngest daughter when she had her first child last year. She wanted a good reference for any illness or just to know what to expect and this is a great general medical reference.

I have a 30 year old home health book that I decided to update and I bought The Merck Manual Home Health Handbook; Third edition. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Diseases and medicine have changed so much. I would suggest that others look into updating their home health manual,too.

I am a nurse practitioner & have relied on the Physician's edition of the Merck Manuel for years but I purchased this one for my mother & she has so enjoyed using it..
