I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book. In general I don't buy books unless I've heard a lot about them first, but in this case I purchased the book because the cover was painted by one of my favorite artists. I read the book as soon as it got to me and I was happy I did. One of the qualities of a good fantasy novel for me is to feel like I've been transported into another world when I'm reading it, and "The First Sign" did that for me. The world is lush with details and the characters are interesting and unexpected. The plot has mystery, warmth, drama, and excitement.

If you are a fan of books like "Harry Potter", "The Chronicles of Narnia", or "The Lord of the Rings" then you will enjoy this book. Its a story about magic and discovery and a hero's journey through an unknown world. Its an easy, fun read and I look forward to future installments.
