THE BEST OB Repair Manual for Merc/Mariner. A must have.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mercury/Mariner Outboards, All Engines 1990-2000 (Seloc Marine Manuals) (Paperback)
This is the most comprehensive repair manual availible for 1990-2000 Merc/Mariner outboard engines. A must have for your boat's glove box and your tool box. Very, very detailed and concise. Easy to read. Perfect for the casual owner and the certified mechanic. Contains everything from general boating and maintenance information to precise tuneup, wiring, electronic, power head and lower unit specs and rebuild instructions. You're nuts if you own a 1990-2000 Mercury/Mariner outboard engine and you don't have this handy.

Most comprehensive repair manual,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mercury/Mariner Outboards, All Engines 1990-2000 (Seloc Marine Manuals) (Paperback)
From the basic do it yourselfer to the skilled mechanic, I think this book is a valuable tool for everyone. Over the lifetime of your engine, one can save thousands of dollars in basic maintenance costs and repairs. Seloc actually uses engines that have hundreds of hours of operation versus the factory manuals. They provide meaningful step by step photography and easy to understand procedures. The most important thing they do is tell you how to put the parts back together.

Pass on this manual,
This review is from: Mercury/Mariner Outboards, All Engines 1990-2000 (Seloc Marine Manuals) (Paperback)
This is a nearly useless manual. It covers too many models and deals mainly with problems common to all covered engines. Not good if your large outboard needs more diagnosis than a 5hp.
Look at others - skip this one.

online manual is complete garbage,
This review is from: Mercury/Mariner Outboards, All Engines 1990-2000 (Seloc Marine Manuals) (Paperback)
dont waste your money on the online manual version of anything seloc.
the pictures are small and dont correspond with the model that youve chosen, the info is generic and useless. "be safe when changing the spark plugs", they have a no return policy, better off to just stare at your motor and hope the answer pops into your head than to waste your money on this product.

I am convinced that the positive reviews his written anonymously are by Seloc representatives. I own an 8hp and a 115hp Mercury.
This manual is almost completely worthless when it comes to specific details. Because it covers so many models the level of detail is very limited. Also there have been numerous times when the information provided is not accurate. It has been rare that I started a job and got any real benefit from this manual that was not quickly available by Googling (eg. wiring diagrams.) On almost every difficult job I had to resort to further research because this manual did not provide the answers I needed. Save your money.

Too General,

This review is from: Mercury/Mariner Outboards, All Engines 1990-2000 (Seloc Marine Manuals) (Paperback)
The book tries to cover too much with little detail. The information on my 40 HP Outboard did not match the electrical or fuel system. Pay the extra money and get the service manual for your Outboard.

OK for the Basics,
This review is from: Mercury/Mariner Outboards, All Engines 1990-2000 (Seloc Marine Manuals) (Paperback)
This manual is better than no manual at all. However, if detail and completeness are required you had better step up and buy the factory service manaul at 3x the cost. If you are the casual mechanic this manual will probably serve you well.

Not as in-depth as I had hoped,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have a Seloc manual for my Evinrude and am very pleased with it's content. However, for some reason, this Merc manual isn't as in-depth as the E-Rude manual.
Case in point: I needed to replace the prop shaft on my Merc, but the manual doesn't contain any information on lower unit disassembly; the E-Rude manual does. The only lower unit coverage in this book is basic maintenance. Nothing more. The powerhead section seems to be quite complete and the wiring diagrams are nice, but again . . . no lower unit info!!!

Simply awful,

This is easily the worst shop manual I've ever tried to use. It doesn't even cover all the engines it claims to.
Once youve purchased it & removed the shrink wrap, you'll be able to see the list of engines it really does cover, several (like mine) are conspicuously absent. The engines that are covered are poorly covered. It lacks diagrams or breakdowns of many key areas of the engines, and the info that it does contain is so basic that it would apply to ANY engine. Do not waste your time & money on Seloc manuals.

Good manual at a great price,

This manual doesn't cover everything in finite detail but it is thorough enough that you will be able to figure out the rest. It was good enough for me to replace the water pump and seals in my 175HP Merc Lower unit with no previous experience with boat motors.
