The step step instructions and information are well organized and easy to follow. As a back yard mechanic, I was well served by this book.

Good pictures, item by item guide.
If you're working on your own motor
start here.

Save yourself some money, or at least
familiarize yourself with the life blood
of your boat. It will help you if you do
go to a shop. You will be able to relate
and talk to the mechanics intelligently.

If I get another boat, I'm buying a guide from
these guys right away.

I've never rebuilt a carb before and used this manual to successfully rebuild a carb on a 1986 Merc 20 HP. Clear instructions and relevant pictures. I can now proceed with confidence onto other repairs/tune ups.

This is invaluable if you try to work on an old motor. 4 stars because it is old black and white, that looks like it has never been updated. Also it covers a wide range of motors so you won't always get a good picture of what you are looking at. Fix one thing one time and it pays for itself.

Good book for the beginner. Wish it had a trouble shooting section. Wish it had more detailed explanation on tear down with pictures. More detailed pictures on adjustments.

Handy reference to have for old Mercury outboard motors. Book has a lot of reference information, step-by-step pictures, etc. I use it to maintain a 1985 25hp Mercury that still runs great. Looking forward to another fishing season (2011).

This is full of information and has saved me money on my motor (since I got the book). Lots of detail, the only thing it is missing is a troubleshooting section.

Book gives some basic service for most of the outboards.But I still would get Mercurys service manual for the engine you have.

Although some of the procedures and pictures go into the details of the work, some of the basic things are missing. For instance, rebuilding the carburetor is described nicely, but does not mention a word about removing and reinstalling the carb back onto the motor.

I wouldn't say that it is as good as a Shop manual but it is pretty good for the do it your selfer.
