5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring reading: more than an astrology book!, August 8, 2004
This review is from: Mercury Retrograde (Paperback)
This book is so beautifully written. It is an excellent book both for those who have little knowledge of astrology and those who have a great deal. Pythia Peay offers an insightful understanding of how to work creatively with one of the most talked about astrological cycles. In this Information Age, understanding how to work with Mercury's three retrograde cycles each year is a valuable insight to say the least. After reading this book I no longer cringe at the onset of Mercury Retrograde but am more attuned to the positive value of such periods throughout the year, as a valuable time for all the activities that begin with "re"...reviewing, reexamining, retracing, etc. The excellent chapter on a short history of astrology is so fascinating and well-researched that anyone interested in astrology would find this particularly worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Enlightening, July 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Mercury Retrograde (Paperback)
Mercury Retrograde is an entertaining and enlightening look at one of the many ways astrology can offer insight and meaning to the often chaotic and senseless aspects of our lives. A great read for both the new and advanced student of astrology, Peay's book poetically weaves together the history, literature, and mythology surrounding mercury retrograde. Using a variety of lenses from many of the world's wisdom traditions, Peay shows her readers how the setbacks and difficulties characteristic of mercury retrograde can be viewed as opportunities for personal growth and transformation.

I've been surprised and enriched through reading Mercury Retrograde. The writing is both interesting and informative, and Ms. Peay's prose are beautiful. I purchased the book shortly before the start of Mercury Retrograde, and was amazed how frequently I had experiences that the author asserts are typical during this period. Not only does Ms. Peay offer suggestions and advice for living during MR, but her observations can be carried through the rest of the year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mercury Retrograde; Its Myth and Meaning, July 4, 2009

This review is from: Mercury Retrograde (Paperback)
An enjoyable read, Pythia Peay's "Mercury Retrograde" explains what the astrological phenomenon is in terms that someone with little or no knowledge of astrology can comprehend. Peay lays down a foundation consisting of a brief history of astrology in general, followed by a look at the classical myths surrounding the god after whom the planet was named. She gives a clear explanation of what it means astronomically and astrologically for Mercury to be retrograde, explaining the three phases of the occurrence and their astrological affects. I particularly enjoyed the sections concerning how Mercury retrograde in a birth chart influences an individual, as well as what to expect from a retrograde cycle based on what sign the planet is traversing. Peay's approach to this often loathed incident that takes place three or four times a year is optimistic and focuses more on what one can do during this time period. In the back of the book, Peay provides tables showing the dates of Mercury retrogrades and what signs the planet transits from 1910 to 2050.

Overall, I found this book to be informative and pleasurable to read with its literary and mythological references as well as anecdotes from the author's personal retrograde experiences. With the positive tone of the book, I am looking forward to applying this information to the next retrograde cycle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Think about getting this book., December 28, 2011
This review is from: Mercury Retrograde (Paperback)
This is not only the definitive book written about Mercury Retrograde, it is the definitive astrological book on the planet Mercury in the pantheon! Any serious astrologer or student of astrology must have this book in order to explain the patterns of Mercury Retrograde to the skeptic or the layman. Through Jungian archetypes and Campbell mythologies Peay presents an authoritative account of how the Mercurial energies correspond to the mind. One caveat: the manner in which this book is written can be murky and thick and can be a difficult read, so examine the text meditatively and patiently and the reader shall be rewarded!
